Hi Friends,

This is from Dr. Weil's newsletter. It's a good read about Vit. B6. It's
not very long, but it is helpful. :-) Hope it helps some or all of you.
Have a nice day.

Gentle hugs,

Diane

I've been pretty turned off by some of the quackery that Dr Weil writes
about. In this case he doesn't mention that subsequent studies re
homocysteine and heart issues have found an *increase* in risk when
taking vitamins B6, folic acid and so on. He also lists 50mg as the
dose he recommends, nevermind that the usual "safe upper limit dose" of
B6 is 25mg from all sources. Even at that dose, in my case, it dropped
my blood pressure to the point where I almost passed out. Not everyone
has that kind of reaction, of course, but if you choose to take ANY
supplement, pass it by your doctor FIRST. And, if you do take ANY
supplement, please keep your doctor informed. S/he may not have any
problems with what you are taking, but there are some known
interferences with various supplements and medications that you may be
prescribed. Lastly, related to dosing, beware that virtually all of the
vitamins and other common OTC supplements have a J curve response, which
means that low doses AND high doses can be equally problematic,
increasing risks. There is sort of a Goldilocks level in between that
is just right and who knows what that level really is, so you are
usually far better off getting them from FOOD rather than pills. My
opinion and $.02.

When trouble arises and things look bad, there is always one individual
who perceives a solution and is willing to take command.
Very often, that individual is crazy.

I believe what you are saying here. I take the vitamins, minerals, etc.,
that I KNOW help me. I don't go by Dr. Weil's advice about that. If he
says a certain exercise or food is good for arthritis and the pain, I
usually try it out. If it works without hurting me, then it's fine. I like
when he gives you recipes and lists of foods that are anti-oxidants. I get
plenty of vitamins, etc., in the foods I eat anyway. Just thought someone
here might like to read his article. But, I get what you're saying about
some of these vitamins and advice he gives. I won't post his newsletter
here anymore if he talks about taking certain vitamins, etc. Thanks for
your input!

Gentle hugs,

Diane

Wow, Ted! Had never heard of anyone having the B6 drop their BP so
drastically. That had to have been pretty scary at the time!

Appreciate you sharing with us about that.

More likely he was just out of shape and had not too controlled blood
glucose levels. The ULs for vitamins are just silly guesses (at best) in too many instances.

I take 50 mgs of B-6. If the form was better specifically the amine form, I'd consider a lower dose.

Well, given the fact that we are all so different in how we respond to
different things, I can see it would be very possible for Ted to have
experieced the things he did.

Our bodies sure are a strange thing some times. : )

Actually, I am NOT out of shape, nor is my blood glucose out of control.
Tim, you just like popping pills.

Yes, I am compelled to admit it is possible. Nonetheless, outliers should not dictate the actions of the bulk of the population.

My comment on BG is unless you are checking it personally (not leaving to
the idiots at the clinic) you can't know your BG isn't spiking.

Interesting attitude since you want YOUR response to a given supplement
to dictate to those of us who are injured by lack of regulation and
oversight. Thanks for throwing me under the bus.

Trig,

I'm not sure what yours and Teds history is with one another, but I
certainly never got any idea that Ted was trying to dictate or control
what any one else takes.

More like he was merely sharing his experience with something that was
mentioned here.

We are all adults and fully capable of making our own decisions on what
to take/not take, etc.

Nothing works great for all, so we share and hopefully get information
from others that help us make our own educated decisons.

Well, at least that's how _I_ took Teds post.

Hopefully, it wasn't history between us. I just have my own history
and rather broad and mixed background.

Thanks, Trig.

I'm sure you do have quite a history.

Living with all of the stuff we all do, we all have rather lengthy
histories.

I always appreciate everyone's sharing and we all learn.

Have a great weekend!
