Subject: small self-prescribed xanax dose
Good Day everyone, I've been struggling with anxiety for quite some
time, over the past couple of months driving has been quite the chore,
although I never avoid it nor do I freak out to the point where I have
to stop. My mom has some .5 milligram xanax, she gave one pill one day
and it worked pretty well. I was wondering if I could take .5 / 1
milligram daily for let's say, 4 or 5 days, where I have a road trip
with the family that I want to enjoy, without worrying about addiction
or heavy withdrawal symptoms? Thank you very much

The technical (textbook) answer to your question is "no" , because
it's illegal.  It's a controlled substance in the United States and
Canada, and probably in many other places as well.  Simply possessing
the drug without a valid prescription in your own name is a crime -
usually a class A misdemeanor.
If you take this drug for five days, at the rate you speak of, you
will have probably only significant "dysphoria" upon stopping it.
It's a slippery slope - if you need some, go see a doctor -
seriously.  In many states your mother could also be implicated for
supplying controlled substances to you, much like a drug dealer.

Now, does this happen all the time?  Yes, of course it does - but I
thought you should know the whole story.  Addiction is not really a
concern, unless you are addiction prone, or have a history of
addiction to alcohol or other drugs.  It takes about 3 to 4 weeks to
develop a physical dependency on Xanax, with daily use.

If you need THAT much Xanax, as a person who has never used it before,
I think you should seriously consider consulting with a psychiatrist
about your anxiety.

Thank you for your answers and concerns, I'm waiting for a month away
psychiatrist evaluation and have been speaking with a psychologist for
a little while. Sorry for sounding like a junkie, I'm not I just
needed to take the edge off my driving anxiety while on a road trip.
Thank you for the advice though.
