Is Comcast stopping all Usenet messages? so many ISP's are doing that now.
They just don't want to pay news services so they can cut costs. My ISP used
to have Giganews, but they cut us off Usnet more than a year ago saying that
not enough customers used Usenet to make it worth their while to pay for it,
which wasn't true. Quite a lot of people used Usenet, but my ISP saw a way
to cut costs and made excuses. They always have excuses.
Mary
only to asapm (that I'm aware of). I can post to and read two other NGs. I
don't know why they stopped sending asapm posts. I don't know if Comcast is
aware they're not sending asapm posts. Apparantly my news reader is not the
problem.

could be. I have no idea how much it costs to provide news service. I don't
know why there would be much expense. Seems like you'd only need a few news
servers with appropriate software. Maybe the costs come from hiring humans
to maintain the news servers.

It might be because ASAPM is moderated and there might have been a problem
between Comcast newsgroups and ASAPM. From my understanding, moderated
groups are a little differently set up.If you had wanted, you could have
emailed your ISP or asked ASAPM moderator if they knew what the problem was,
but since you are using Mozarella who I sometimes use, may as well just use
them.

When my ISP (and many others) stopped using Giganews, it would save ISP's
money since they don't need to pay for Giganews to download newsgroups to
the ISP's customers. I suspect it cost a lot .

And none of them hold water - they know that, but its all in the game :)
Mary
and maybe my newsreader is the problem.

I received asapm via Comcast for a few weeks prior to all messages to asapm
not appearing on my newsreader on July 2.

asapm moderaters gave my a few suggestions. I also went to
microsoft.public.vista.mail and posted my problem there. And got a number of
suggestions. One suggestion was to use Motzarella and see if I could read
asapm.

that's a thought. Thanks, Mary. I have a brand new broadband ISP and a brand
new laptop computer with a brand new Vista OS. I'd kinda like to get down to
the bottom of the problem.
Chip
I don't use Vista and I believe you said you did, and I don't think Vista
has Outlook express, so I don't know anything about the mail reder in Vista,

If you got ASAPM before, you should be able to get it again, unless Comcast
dropped ASAPM for some reason.
Did you phone Comcast tech. dept. to ask them? though if they are anything
like the tech. dept of my ISP, they usually don't know much about Usenet. I
usually know more, so I don't phone unless I have to as its too aggravating

Well as you can see Motzarella gets ASAPM and must have its servers set up
properly.

I know what you mean about wanting to get to the bottom of the problem. I'm
like that too. I hate when things don't work properly. Try your ISP is all I
can suggest and try to find out why they can't get ASAPM since you said they
got it before :)

I posted in a Comcast forum tonight at the comcast website asking about
asapm. I'll check the comcast forum tomorrow to see if there's any answers.

You can try thaat, and if no answers, if you want to investigate further,
you might be able to get more direct answers from Comcast technical suppor
or if they don't know, they can probably find out for you.
Mary
I downloaded 3 updates from Microsoft today and am now able to receive asapm
using my Comcast news server.
I don't know how the updates helped, but they apparantly did help.
I wouldn't have thougth MS updates would help, but seems like it maybe
changed something. At least you got it solved and can sleep at night :>).
