Does anyone else have trouble remembering things? I just now realized that
I was supposed to volunteer in my daughter's class yesterday a.m. and
totally blew it off. What must her teacher be thinking?
I swear, I can't remember things from one moment to the next. It's not the
Xanax, either, as this has become much worse only in the past couple of
months and I've been taking the Xanax for a long time. I used to be so
responsible and now I'm a big flake.
Help! Any suggestions. I do have a datebook that helps, but sometimes I
forget to write things in it. ARRRGH!

Hi Dawn,
I keep a notepad on my desk and list all the things I have to do. As soon as
I think of something to do, I write it down if it's important. After I do
it, I cross it out.
Chip :)
Hello Dawn, since I am on paxil I tend to forget things like you do !
It sometimes drives me nutzzzzzzzz. I have a cell-phone with a
remebering-
thingy and sometimes I put things in it. Like when I have to call
someone.
Maybe that helps ?
Love from Anna
Of course I didn't tell HER that I forgot all about it. I just said "Oh,
why didn't you feel like going?" and blew it off....had she not taken the
bus home and stayed for the tutoring...my phone would have rang at 4 with
her asking "Mom are you coming to get me?" Then of course I would have felt
like sh*t.
<SIGH>.........I know shame on me, I need to do the list thing so I won't
forget like the others suggested. At least you aren't alone, Dawn LOL......

I have a distinctive impairment of my short-term memory. I blame it on
the Xanax and partly on old age ;-)
Philip
I'm totally with you. That sounds like something I would have done. I'm
also 34 as of Sunday : ). I did figure out that part of my problem is a
change in my thyroid meds, which isn't working out for me. I have had my
first panic attacks in three years (had GAD constantly, but not full blown
PA's) since starting Xanax and Remeron. Needless to say, I called my
regular doc and told him I can't take the T3 he prescribed and to put me
back on my old stuff.
Thanks for replying! I think you and I have a lot in common (other than our
ages : ).
Thanks! I wonder if my cell phone has that feature? It just might...I also
downloaded some freeware that alerts me to appts. with a very annoying song.
And I would just like to add that you are adorable : ). I so look forward
to your posts!
Dawn
That about sums me up : ). LOL! Thanks for giving it a go, anyway.
Elise,
Me, stressed? Nah! LOL. I am maxed out on the stress right now. Even the
exercise isn't helping. I notice my husband is having memory problems too
and he normally doesn't, so I'm not alone : ).
Half-crazed rictus grins ; ),
I, too, have the impairment from Xanax. It is actually a good thing for me
as I needed to forget some things (i.e. "let them go"). But this is beyond
that. This is like I can't remember my own name half the time. Scary. I
think it's stress, though, as I've noticed others around me doing the same
thing. We're all in the same boat with my SIL dying from cancer and the
stress it is causing, so it makes sense.
Can I claim the old age excuse? Maybe in lieu of that I'll use my thyroid
condition. That causes memory problems too. I will be 34 soon---do I
qualify as old yet? I don't think anyone under 75 is old now. I'm
compensating--the older I get, the younger everyone older than me seems.
Dawn : )
If I have to remember something, I must write it down. If I am going to the
store, a shopping list is in order. If it is an appointment, I have a
calendar with large squares on it for writing in or I put the appointment on
my computer calendar.
Relying on my memory is futile ... the borg:0
Ron
Dawn
I, too, have the obsessive "did I take it or not?" thoughts. I have to make
a production of taking my meds and say "I am taking my meds, today, <insert
day and date> when I do it or I will forget. A calendar with check boxes
for them helps too.
Thanks so much for responding. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one.
I have a weekly pill container that I put all my meds in. Without that,
I'd never know if I took it or not.
Tono
Been there, done it, forgotten it!! My computer desk is covered in
bits of paper reminding me of stuff. I have to leave things like
credit card bills out so I see them and don`t forget to pay them. I`m
31 and have been taking Xanax for a few years. It wasn`t noticable at
first but my memory has got worse over time, which I attribute to X.
When I go out drinking, too, I forget so many things. It`s become a
standing joke with my mates...especially with things like which
football matches we`ve decided to all go to and what train to catch. I
go to all the home matches, so that`s not a problem, but just the
other day I said to one of my mates "Are we going to Coventry?" and
everyone laughed coz we`d apparently decided the week before to miss
that one. When we`re out drinking, and we`ve decided what train to get
for a certain game, my mate says he`ll email me the time coz I`ll only
forget....and I just agree now coz I know it`s true!
Usually it`s not too much of a problem, it`s just special events like
when I was Best Man, and the trip to Blackpool in my photo gallery,
that I hate forgetting bits of. Luckily the photos of these events
bring the memories flooding back, but some bits are still a little
hazy.
I thought I was the only one having this problem! Oh well, at least
we`re not completetly senile yet!
Love,
erm, oh yeah - Mart ;-)

Dear Dawn,
I can be quite forgetful too :) Some tips that have helped me to remember
things :P~ I hang a calendar right by my desk and on that calendar are
everyones birthdays, anniversaries, doctor appts, parties, etc. I am a list
person, I make lists for everything, otherwise I would forget. Invest in
lots of post-em notes, they will be your friend :) I read a few posts about
not remembering if you`ve taken your pills or not. LOL......I`ve had the joy
of taking double doses of my paxil and thyroid med because I forgot I had
taken them already. Weekly pill boxes are the best. I have one for my
morning meds and one for my evening meds. Leave the pill box out where you
can see them. Other than that, just pray and hope for the best :)

Remeron is very sedating from what I've heard. My ex used to take it and
had a hard time waking up in the mornings!

I've also found out that Atenolol is also prescribed for panic attacks!!

I keep lists to remember, but I tend to over-commit when I make
lists. I keep a calendar on the wall, where I don't miss it. When I
carried a brief-case to work all the time, I used the Month-at-a-Glance
calendar to keep track of things. I avoid being too rigid about
scheduling, because I don't want to overdo it.

Betablockers are not really anxiolytics. But they do get rid of the
*cardiac* symptoms of PD (palpitations, hear racing etc.).
Philip
Thanks for the birthday wishes, but actually it's not until this Sunday. I
wrote that in a strange way and it did sound like it had already passed. My
bad : ).
So that makes me an Aquarian. Which means I was already crazy ; ). I am
anything but serious. Moody, I'll cop to, and definitely responsible. But
serious is not in my vocabulary. To quote the Bare Naked Ladies..."I'm the
kind of guy (gal) who'd laugh at a funeral. Can't understand what I mean?
You soon will." Oh, I do have bouts of taking things too seriously, but
quickly snap out of it after a few head butts to the wall ; ). I have an
interest in Astrology, too, btw. If you ever want to chat about it we can
take it to email. My mom is really into it as well. I once went to an
astrologer who predicted some pretty detailed things, based on my chart,
that actually came to pass. I freaked out.
Anyway, I won't drive everyone nuts with that : ). I love Remeron! It is
sedating after I take it at night, when I need it to be, but I sleep like a
dream and wake fully refreshed. I'm getting the best sleep I have EVER had
on this stuff, for almost 3 years now.
Dawn : )
I had something set up through yahoo to instant message me when I had an
appt or needed reminding, but that annoying "POW" sound it made everytime I
logged on drove me insane (more so than I am now) so I got rid of that idea.
Now I just write things down as soon as I think of something important in a
notebook.......only problem with that is my notebook disappears! Back to the
kids rooms!!

I`ve been taking toprol since Sept. My sleep hasn`t been great ever since. I
was wondering if anyone else is experiencing sleep disturbances while on a
beta blocker?

Hey Jackie,
According to my psychopharm text, beta-blockers can result in insomnia and
vivid nightmares.

Not me.
P. (been on atenolol for about 10 years)
Ralph and I leave notes all over the house. Ralph puts his on the
bathroom mirror so he can see them when he gets up. He puts notes to
me in my underwear drawer...grin. We both set thingsright in front of
the door that we have to take with us when leaving the house.
Take care,
Liz

Post-it notes for the car! I think that I need some. From time to time I get
in the car and start driving to some destination and come to a stop light
and discover that I have forgotten where I am going! It comes back to me but
it sure is a pain in the butt.
Ron

Ha! This is funny. Just last night I had my wife running all over
the house looking for a video tape that SOMEONE misplaced. Then this
morning I found it in MY sock drawer. I know I must have put it there,
but I don't have the faintest recollection of doing so.
>Help! Any suggestions. I do have a datebook that helps, but sometimes I

First, don't make too big a deal out of it. The anxiety will only
make it worse.
Second, you can train your memory. There are books on how to do this.
Self-hypnosis is one route.
Third, and this is pertinent to my own situation, you have to avoid
trying to do 85 different things at once so you can really focus on
what you need to remember. F'rinstance, I need to tell myself, "I am
putting this video in this drawer and this is where it will be when I
need it." STOP. Look around. Orient yourself. "I will remember
this." Etc.
We have the bad habit, my wife and I, of putting things in a "safe place"
and then not remembering where that place is even when we think that it is a
very logical place to put things:(

HAAAAAAAAAA! I call that "destinesia". It was one of the "Sniglets" from
Saturday Night Live.
I keep post its EVERYWHERE. In my purse, in my car, upstairs,
downstairs....I was thinking I should start wearing a name tag...as well!
