There are two ways to reply to the posts here......One is by typing an
actual reply, and the other is with a very loud silence.
Sometimes the latter is the kinder reply. Especially when someone
who is obviously all wet posts some pet theory which is of no help to
those who have a sick relative to deal with.
Just a proverbial "word to the wise...."

I am still reading here, and occasionally posting too. Time Warner
pulled the plug on usenet groups, so I can only post and read through
google now. It is a little more difficult, but I am managing.
I plan to get set up on one of the free servers (got a list of
possibles) but have to figure out some things first.
I have read about your difficulties with your Dad. It is just
amazing that this has been going on for so long. My own father is
similar you know. My mother is gone since 2000, but he has been
getting worse with vascular deficiency to his brain.
Just to let you know I admire your courage, and I know it is hard.

Columbia University in NYC and educate yourself at the same place Dr.

You are a pitiful case, and you have no idea how pitiful. It is so
obvious that you are stuck on an idea that isn't valid and you keep
trying to push it down peoples throats. Some have told you politely
and some have called you a crackpot and some have you killfiled. You
tell us you have alzheimers, but your memory is too good for that to
be true. You do need help though, and I hope you get it.

apparent reason except it is thought to be their difficult personality
coming to the fore. I have seen many old people cry and shout and I know
they can be upset by the environment of the home with anti-depressants.
The person on the anti-depressant fares pretty well, but the damage it
creates for the others is pure killing. Will write again, unable to now.

I agree. But what is the alternative? When my 100 year old MIL went into
the nursing home she was of sound mind. She put herself into the NH
because she knew her surviving children who by then were in their 70's and
80's couldn't take care of her and she knew it. She was incontinent and
couldn't walk without assistance. Her youngest daughter offered to have
her stay at her home but MIL refused (with good reason, which I won't go
into here). I was caring for a special needs grandson (trach, CPAP), so I
couldn't really take on anymore but I don't think she would have stayed with
us because she was one independent woman. I think MIL had originally had a
stroke and within a few weeks at the NH was yelling out bingo numbers. Yes
she was put on medication but she was having terrible hallucinations as
well. The staff said they had never seem such a swift decline in mental
abilities. I remember posting that here in the newsgroup back then and
Dennis suggested that it was probably due to a lack of circulation to the
brain. I'm sure he was right.
Just a few years before when MIL was in her 90's she was telling a my
daughter that one of her worse nightmares was to be one of those old ladies
in a NH yelling out. How sad. BTW only 2 of her 6 children are still
living. The daughter that offered to care for her died within a few months
of her mother. Another daughter a year later. We are a society that is
living longer and we have a conscience. Not all NH are equal.
I'm posting this not because I think it will change Gail's mind but because
of those out there who feel guilty about putting their loved ones in a NH.
The last place my MIL wanted to be was that nursing home but she was in her
right mind when she made the decision to go. Perhaps if your LO had their
right mind they might make the same unselfish decision......June

at, is that the nursing homes can be safe and comfortable, but choose the
anti-depressants which create a dangerous environment. I believe they are
paid to prescribe these meds.
As Evelyn said, her MIL was prescribed anti-depressants and did well on
them. That is true, but if NO ONE at the home was on an anti-depressant,
she may never have need them. They create the need for anti-depressans
most often by their use by others.
I know it sounds strange what I am saying, but years of observation and
personal experience have made this statement as accurate as nothing I have
ever felt. Too bad, a simple revocation of anti-depressants can test the
theoy, and see the behavior of the residents as they become more comfortable
and quiet, as nothing is altering their mind and body. I am really not
interested in what people say, help is what I need for thousands of people
to live safely and comfortably. In years past Valium was the drug of
choice for nervous problems, but progress brought anti-depressants in a big
way and no one is going to back down. Anti-depressants are mind altering
drugs like all hard drugs, and I am convinced they should be curbed, or at
least nursing homes should be dividided by whether they use anti-depressants
and those that do not. That would be a fair choice for the residents.
Trouble is, this is a very simple, but very difficult concept to understand
about anti-depressants, and so many are sacrificed to this very unnecessary,
to say the least, hardship that can lead to tremendous harm.

Gail, my mother in law was OFF the anti depressants when she was in
the nursing home. She had been put on them at home, because she was
so depressed. She knew something was wrong but didn't know what it
was and felt she was losing her mind. The anti depressants helped
that.
Everyone please take note of this; Gail believes that if you are
around someone on anti-depressants that it can affect YOU. This is
impossible of course.

Not only impossible, but how would you explain people who are not in
NHs who need them? Who live alone? Who did they "catch" that need
from?
I do agree that if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a
nail. Anti-depressants may well be prescribed to people who would be
better served thorugh alternative therapies because they ARE so
effective for some people. Generalizations are dangerous about any
class of drugs or therapies.
Personally I am grateful for the people who can take care of my LOs
when I do not have the skills, temperament, time or patience to do it
myself!

I never said anti-depressants do not help. Actually, they are very good at
curbing depression. Again, my objection is the mind/body connection that
harms innocent people. This is not of my doing nor of your MIL's doing.
It is just something that is fact. And your statement that "of course
that is impossble" is your opinion. Anything is possible, maybe not
likely, but possible. It is strange, I agree, but strange things do
occur in the planet. How the stimulants are able to transfer harm is not
explainable, or I would not have to be writing. My posts are to explain
and be aware of this strange phenomenom. It can't always help as 99% or
99.9 percent feel as you do. They go by reasoning. Well crohns and UC do
not respond to reasoning. They are illnesses like no other.
Inexplainable and misunderstood by everyone, including the physicians.
But I have read of physicians that had crohns, and they could not figure out
their situatiion. So everyone stands to benefit if at least they suspect
there may be some truth to this.
And "We sure do get em here" I could feel that way about you, but I do not.
I know where you are coming from, but my position seems to be in La La land
to quote others. That is fine with me, but the one person that may benefit
is worth the discussion.

Gail you are not being "published" here. This is a public newsgroup
and if you want to say the moon is made of green cheese and martians
are running around in your back yard you can do so. It isn't
publishing, it is just a newsgroup.
I am sorry and hate to offend you, but I personally consider your
cockamamy ideas to be about as far out as a person can get without
getting yourself locked up. Maybe you consider yourself harmless,
but this is a serious illness and people are really suffering with
family members who are ill. Your strange and improbable theories
only create confusion and more heartbreak for them.
It is hard enough to have to place a loved on in a nursing home

Maybe I am not understanding you. I do not mean Google is publishing my
comments on usenet. They are printing them in another place I thought
maybe is called a blog. where one puts the name Kureforcrohns and
then hit search. I think it is an AOL with google activity.
Anyway, the big point is you think what I say about crohns and
anti-depressants has no merit. I do not mean to confuse anyone, it is
just information I thought would be helpful. Why otherwise would I be so
persistent. But I will be persistent no longer. (maybe) If I can offer
what I consider proof, I will write. But I am not free to do so. I am
not offended, worse has been said. And killfilling me is the proper thing
to do if I am worthless in my discussion. So, we can say we have both

(male) asked me why he was hurting so much, I told him it was because this
person on an anti-depressant was sitting in front of his desk and observing
him all the time for lack of something better to do. Within the week, he
said his doctor told him he has crohns.
I thought he would say something to the administrator, but he just gave
notice and quit. Far as I know from his f riend who also left, says he is
fine.
They have just decided to remove the chair from its position as so many
nurses have left. Does that say something. I am tired as you must be
from this discussion. so I will let go for the time being.

Well, Evelyn, you, and your followers, never could tolerate the truth.
Wrong again, I didn't write I have Alzheimers. My late mother was
diagnosed with AD in the late stages with complete memory loss. Since
doctors know nothing on Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, I believe her diagnosis
was incorrect and should have been RHS. RHS symptoms are very similar
to AD. Both diseases cause dementia or memory loss and other
similarities in symptoms. I have RHS including dementia but no help for
it anywhere in the entire U.S.A. Can you imagine the outrage folks
would feel knowing the late Dr. Hunt discovered the virus that causes
RHS but nothing was done except to cover up his work causing thousands
to needlessly suffer and die?????? If anyone deserves Justice for what's
been done to him, its the late Dr.Hunt!
By the way, most, as the church, thought Galilleo was a "crackpot"
because he believed the earth was round and not flat but jailed and
killed for being right. It's people like you, Evenlyn, who keep medicine

CNN has reported children waking up during the night and predicting the
future, can you explain it? You were posting on newsgroups from morning
to night, and you want us to believe you were the sole caretaker for
your MIL or was she doped up on anti-depressants all day? It seems, you
and your followers, are all pro-pharmica but say your retired????
I have nothing good to say about anti-depressants either. They try to
smother the symptoms but ignore the root cause: viruses.. I couldn't
believe nursing homes still prescribed "Haldol" when I believe Europe
banned the drug a long time ago. A good alternative to nursing homes is
research on cranial/facial diseases and medical schools accountable to
"Neutral" Committees instead of allowing them to police themselves.
