Can anyone recommend a personal alarm? Something
like a pendant for the transmitter, and a receiver
I can hack to ring an alarm. I have good technical
skills, so I could easily convert an autodialer
to the purpose. I believe Radio Shack used to sell
something like that.

Do you need this for someone who is ill or bedridden?

The reason for my question is -

When Mom lived by herself I put up a wireless doorbell that plugged into
an outlet and lit up as well as rang loudly because she couldn't hear
the regular doorbell.

When she came to live with me I took it down and used it here. I
plugged the light and bell in my bedroom electrical socket and gave her
the button to push when she needed to get up during the night.

It worked great until her dementia got worse and she didn't always know
what to do with the button.

It works well in any room or you could plug it in outside or in the
garage if you were not in the house.

Not even close to that yet. But if there's
an emergency, such as a fall, I want to know
right away. The doorbell idea is good.
Those transmitters are small. Range might
be a problem.

I still had the papers from the wireless door chime and it indicates
range can vary from 20 to 125 feet depending on construction of home.
I know I used it for a much farther distance though.

I bought this quite some time ago so perhaps the newer ones are better.

In your situation.....is this for someone who would be in the same house
as you? Or..do you need it for someone who lives alone?

I had a friend who gave her mother a really good whistle (not a toy one)
and attached it to a chain for a necklace.

Please post if you come up with a solution. It is always good to have
more information.

She's next door. I think about 100 yards range
would do.

Falls are one of my larger concerns. I don't
suppose anybody makes a pendant activated by
an accelerometer?

I've seen different ads for personal alarms but, I believe, they all
have a monthly fee. You might check with AARP or a local senior group
to see if they have any recommendations.
