TSM branch, Crius

Xave looked up, his eyes focused only to find almost total darkness. He could
hear his heart beat steadily as he gazed into the darkness. It was odd that
he could hear his heart but he could not feel it. Everything around him
seemed surreal. Where he was and how he got there was not important, at least
not to him.

A figure dressed in black stood a few feat away. Azzameen couldn't see his
face, but when he looked at him his heart beat almost stopped. For a brief
moment a stroke of pure fear crossed Azzameen's mind.

Xave's eyes focused again. This time he found himself lying still in his bead
in the TSM building. It was all a dream? But what does it mean? After a few
minutes Azzameen fully regained consciousness. His dream and the questions
surrounding it soon faded into irrelevancies as he quickly picked up the
strength to get out of bed.

It was four o'clock in the morning. Azzameen had to be in his flight suit,
and ready to leave at five. He stepped into the particle shower and
immediately felt the intense heat as dead skin and other particles were
ripped off his body molecule by molecule. He was now wide awake.

Within minutes he was dressed and heading into the mess hall for some
pre-replicated breakfast before his flight.

Azzameen arrived at the launch pad at 0455.
"Major Azzameen is it?" As Xave stepped out onto the platform, high atop the
pyramidal structure he was greeted by a woman in a blue engineer's uniform.
"Yeah that's me."
"Your fighter's over there," the woman indicated in the direction of a
particularly sleek looking craft resting near the edge of the platform,
"We've just finished uploading all the nav data. So it's ready when you are."
"Have any other Nova squadron pilots been through here? I wanted to meet them
before the flight."
"Nova squadron? I think the rest of those guys are taking off from the
platform in the five-eight block. You'll probably be rendezvousing with them
in orbit."

The sun began to peek over the horizon. Three fighters thundered skyward from
one of the lower pads, closely followed by a forth and a fifth. Xave was
almost knocked off his feat as he watched the craft roar into the clouds only
seconds after they took off.
"I guess that's my cue."
"I'll see you around Major."

Several other pilots appeared on the pad and immediately entered their
waiting craft. Azzameen climbed into his cockpit and tapped at the controls.
The computer let out a chime and the canopy closed and locked into place.
Azzameen tapped at a few more controls and pressed himself firmly back in his
seat, allowing him to feel the vibrations from the engines. This was
something he always did. For a reason that was unknown, even to him, this
made him feel as though he was closer to the fighter he was about to fly. The
entire craft was to become an extension of himself.

Finally he eased back the flight stick and the craft rose from the pad. With
his other hand he tapped at a few more of the controls and put his hand on a
black panel and tilted it forward. More energy was sent to the thrusters and
the fighter took to the skies of Crius in a vertical climb. Other similar
craft left their respective platforms and rocketed skyward. Ion trails lit
the dawn sky as dozens of fighters rocketed to their destination.

The G force pulled Azzameen into his seat as he broke through the clouds. He
adjusted the inertial dampers to their maximum and felt the effect of the G
forces deteriorate as he climbed into the void.

"Well if it isn't our new flight leader, all squeaky clean and pressed from
the TSS."
"Knock it off Biterman, we don't have time to fuck around out here!"
"Well EXCUSE me."
"I presume you guys are Nova squadron?" Azzameen asked over the com, in
response.
"Yeah that's us. We can get to the introductions later, right now we've gotta
get to the Ortega."
"Alright, prepare to engage hyperdrive on my. . ." Before Azzameen could
finish, about a dozen white streaks appeared and vanished where his squadron
used to be.
"I can see I'm gonna have a few problems with you guys."
Azzameen hit the hyperdrive control and watched as the stars soon became
streaks as the small fighter was pulled from normal space. There was a flash
of light and he was gone.

***

All was quite within Kar Selim, at least until one fateful message blared
over the intercom.
"ATTENTION. . .ALL PILOTS REPORT TO THE FLIGHT DECK IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS NOT
A DRILL. ALL PILOTS REPORT TO THE FLIGHT DECK ."
"It's a scramble! Let's go!"
The voice of the Federal computer sounded much more feminine then it used to.
But no matter how feminine it sounds, the message to scramble always sends
chills down an inexperienced pilots spine. A young pilot climbed into the
cockpit and before he fully understood what was happening, found himself
thundering toward the end of the deck. As he immerged into the void he was
confronted, along with all the other remaining pilots, with the enemy that he
was to face.

Imperial TIEs of every description were swarming all over the carrier. The
battle had begun, and the Federals were loosing.

"Damage report!"
"Hull breach on decks nine through twelve, shields are failing, core systems
are critical!"

The entire battle was moving at high speed as fighters pounded away at their
target. The Federal carrier desperately tried to flee it's attackers. The
rectangular hull was breached in several places and plasma was venting out
the starboard nacelle. The kilometer long ship's hyper engines had taken the
brunt of the attack and were off line. Imperial TIE's swarmed all over it
peppering the hull with plasma fire as they screamed past. A few Federal
fighters of varying descriptions swarmed around trying their best to pick off
the myriad TIEs but to no avail. The Federal fighters were well designed but
the Imperials had numbers on their side. There were too many of them. The
carrier itself moved and strafed quickly, making the attack run on it much
more difficult. A lot of the TIEs broke off to engage the other fighters.

However following close behind was something far more deadly than the TIE's.
A Stardestroyer of an unknown class was catching up to the wounded carrier.

"Imperial Star Destroyer closing! It doesn't match anything in the database!"
Yelled one of the bridge officers on the carrier.
"Ready fusion torpedoes." Ordered the captain.
"Antimatter fusion torpedoes ready." Advances in antimatter fusion over the
years has allowed for an extremely high yield warhead. The blast radius of
each torpedo renders them useless for attacking fighters without damaging the
ship in the process. However they are among the top five most deadly weapons
to use against an attacking capital ship.
"Fire!"

Six red bolts of light launched out of the aft section, one after another.
The Stardestroyer maintained its pursuit. The torpedoes screamed past the
pre-occupied fighters at high speed. The torpedoes hit their target and flash
of light momentarily filled the void. A barrier of energy flashed into
existence around the Stardestroyer's hull as the torpedoes hit.
"Minor damage to the forward light point weapons sir, nothing critical."
"Excellent, prepare the ion batteries."
"Yes sir."
The officers in the Stardestroyer's bridge crew obeyed their commander, a
subsonic hum was heard signifying the arming of the ion weapons. The Federals
were not the only ones to have advanced in technology. The ship mounted ion
weapons rivaled that of the older planetary models. They could easily disable
an enemy ship of equal size and strength with four shots.
"Signal the fighters, make sure they are out of the way."
"Attention alpha, beta, and delta wings, withdraw to safe distance and await
further instructions."
"Fire!"

Four blue bolts of energy lanced out of the destroyer, one by one the made
contact with the carrier. Waves of energy raced up and down the ship as the
lights went out. The blue glow of the nacelles died and the carrier became
adrift.
"Direct hit, the primary target has been disabled."
"Excellent, tractor them to a halt and commence boarding. Lord Tylis will be
pleased."

You'll never believe how long it took me to think of a new name for a Sith
lord. I was thinking of different car types perhaps. Darth Celica?

Heheh.
One thing that intresets me is what this carrier is? Is it carrier 1st,
minimal defences or a warship with a hela lot of fighter bays???

Anyway get the next one out..

No. No. No. Darth Toyota.

Hmm, Darth Ford?
No, he would start to have break downs or something : )

Oh, I know, how about Darth Pinto! Yeah, and he would have the ability to
explode in a crash!

Wait, one more: Darth Yugo! Oh yeah, that ones the best, no contest.

Well essentially it's a warship but not quite. The Federal's use them to
quickly explore large areas of space with hyperspace capable fighters. Should
it encounter a hostile situation it has torpedoes which can take out cap
ships of a similar size, or at least cripple them enough for the fighters to
finnish it off. Unfortunately for them, the fighters were picked off group by
group during their scouting runs, subsequently lowering the defensive
capabilities of the carrier.

That and that SD was just plain bigger.

And now they get boarded. I wonder if they have moved beyond the redshirt
mentality yet.......
