Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Paul Carreau. I have the
dubious distinction of being the Senior Command Officer of KAG
Kanada. My Klingon persona is Thought Admiral Qel Iv epetai-Satir MK,
KAD, IS
Apathy aside, as you may or may not be aware Klingon Fandom has been
around for some time.
I have called for a lop nor in 2009 to celebrate twenty years of
Klingon Fandom in Canada. Yes, it is KAG Kanada's twentieth
Anniversary.
I want to make this more than just another Con. I would like to
invite former members as well as the current membership of KAG Kanada
to participate and make this a true celebration.
The venue for this event/Con will be in Vulcan, Alberta. The date is
not firmed up, but I suspect it will be June or July 2009.

This invitation has been extended to other Klingon clubs as well.

nuqneH qeliv!
Congratulations on KAG Kanada's upcoming twentieth anniversary!
Unfortunately alt.startrek.klingon has been all but khex for years now.
The current crop of Klindom appears to have largely moved on to private
forums. I invite you to repeat your announcement and invitation at the
Klingon Imperial Forums http://www.klingon.org/smboard/index.php.
If you like what you see, I hope that you will come back to participate
in our discussions. Lady K'Zin Epetai Kasara, founder of both the Forums
and the KIDC, the club that sponsors them, has set aside a separate
subforum for the exclusive use of KAG Kanada and its members.
Unfortunately no one has made use of it yet. I invite you and your
compatriots to come try it. (You won't be able to see it on read-only
status. If you do decide to sign up for a user's account, I will send
you the password.)
Wishing you further Qapla'!

Thank you Kesvirit for your response. Now I know that some is
listening.
I am aware of the newsgroup that Lady K'Zin Epetai Kasara has set up
for KAG Kanada. I am also aware that at one time she was briefly a
member of KAG Kanada. In fact, the Lady K'Zin in her human persona,
hosts the KAG Kanada web site.
That is the point of this posting. It is the former members who are
not a part of the KAG Kanada net. <Yah-hell groups>
I am hoping to turn this milestone into a celebration of Fandom, and
promote it as a family reunion. Obviously my interests are for KAG
Kanada, however that shouldn't preclude others from attending.
The Galaxyfest Con in Vulcan is unique. The Con is supported by the
Town Council of Vulcan. It is not a fan con nor a Creation Con. The
average attendance is around eight hundred people.
The reason for the Con and Spock Days is to draw attention to the town
of Vulcan. This is to promote local Tourism. The publicity that this
Con attracts could not be afforded if it was paid for by the Town of
Vulcan.
Vulcan capitalizes on the town's name and its obvious association to
Star Trek. The town Counsellors, when attending official Provincial
functions wear "Spock Ears" and Starfleet Uniforms <circa Star Trek
II, The Wrath Of Kahn": Local members have been supporting the town
for over fifteen years, I think it is actually seventeen, and the town
supports us. In 2005 we were asked who we wanted for guest stars, and
we asked for Robert O'Reilly and J.G. Hertzler. In my experience,
this was the first time anyone asked a fan club who they wanted and
delivered.
Vulcan will be celebrating the Trek Station's Tenth Anniversary in
2008. They want to build on this with the KAG Kanada Twentiety
Anniversary in 2009.
Why am I flogging Vulcan? We are in the same positon as we approach
2009. I have been asked who do we want. The town is very supportive
of the club and Klingons. I suspect that this will turn into a media
event as well.
This year I was quoted as far as China. (I didn't even know I could
speak Chinese!)
There are logistics. (Read expenses.) I have made the trip from
Halifax to Toronto and from Calgary to Toronto enough times. The cost
of the Con is more than half of what you would pay for in Toronto.
Room prices average about $79.00 a night, full con membership is
$85.00 and food is not nearly as expensive. I think that these
prices more than offset the cost of an airline ticket.
The guest stars usually stop in at the Room Parties. (What
security?) I have been approaced and asked if we would host our "Room
Party" in the local Legion to accomodate all the people. This past
con, I hosted a County Commissionaire and the Tourism Coordinator, and
they felt the room was too small. Go figure.
I just want to get the word out. I am hoping to reach as many former
members as I can. I know that that there are many different reasons
why people left. Personal or personality reasons aside, this is a
chance a rare opportunity for Klingon fans to come together for a full
Klingon themed Con. Even if your not a member or former member, this
is going to be one hell of a party.

In that light, do you mind if post your initial post to the KIF in its
entirity? Publicity is publicity, and we do get a lot of
Google/surf-through traffic. You never know when the right lurker may
come by, running cloaked....
I do not mind at all. In fact, I welcome your help and support.
Thank you.
