Auberjonois

Though quite ancient and quite sickly, the prisoner's petition for
parole had been denied once again.
It now fell to Constable Odo to transport this man back to the penal
colony that was his longtime home.

"I am a Patriot. What I did I did for the Federation. The Klingons
have proven that they cannot be trusted!"

Odo disagreed.

"You nearly started the final war. You tried to kill The
Federation President, and make it look like a Klingon did it."

The man shouted again.

"I am a hero!"

Odo shook his head.

"Just sit down and relax, Colonel West."

EARTH, THE MID-22ND CENTURY

Captain Archer shook his head.

"A Vulcan! They're letting a Vulcan oversee the mission. A fidgeting
mass of 'No, Don't Do That' saying how I should run my command."

His lady-friend, a reporter of some note, tried to calm him.

"C'mon, Johnny! Could it be worse than dealing with me after rehab?
Not to mention childbirth."

He kissed her.

"We'll be spending a lot of time out by the rim. Pluto's a week away--
I'll miss you."

"Hey, we both go into dangerous places. You promise to take care--I'll
do the same."

Jonathan Archer then kissed Murphy Brown goodbye.

On the Bridge of Starfleet's flagship, a bright young man pulled off a
stunning deception.

"Captain---not again!"

"I'm afraid so, Number One. As I beamed my nephew back, I found myself
again reduced to childhood!"

Beverly frowned.

"No arguments. Down to Sickbay for a complete checkup."

Inwardly, Rene grinned.

"Do as you must, Doctor."

On Earth, Starfleet's greatest modern Captain was the victim of a
stunning deception.

"Young man, you'll not leave til you eat your vegetables!"

The youthened Picard glared at his brother.

"Robbie, when all is done, you will pay for this in ways you cannot
comprehend."

Joseph spoke from the next room.

"Leyton's coup will destroy The Federation."

Ben responded.

"Dad. It’s no coup. Just security measures against an intractable
foe."

Joseph wasn't having it.

"I know its a coup, because that's exactly what they're not calling
it."

Second-guessing Command was too easy a game to play, so Ben resisted.

"Dad, sometimes the means needed to safeguard our security bump up
against our freedoms. That's to be expected."

Joseph then emerged wearing the Starfleet tunic of his grandfather,
Admiral Cartwright. Ben was struck silent. Joseph nodded.

"I once knew a man felt the exact same way."

Tiron fretted.

"Brunt--remind me why we're dealing with the Dominion?"

The defrocked FCD grinned.

"Profit and revenge, Tiron. We stole this treasure right out from
under Quark."

Weyoun entered.

"Gentlemen--let me see your wares."

Brunt nodded.

"And our product, too!"

Tiron pointed.

"An actual Iconian receiver! All of the Alliance's secrets are yours!"

Weyoun glanced up.

"We shall see. Activate it. Widest band reception."

They did, and viewed a distant transmission.

"Tonight on Tsunkatse--The Champion takes on the Borg Drone! I'm Penk,
and our exciting..."

Weyoun switched it off.

"The Founders are---notably disinterested in professional wrestling."

Chakotay bristled at the youngster holding the weapon.

"So that's it? I'm to be captured? I thought we had an understanding."

The youngster shrugged.

"I'm sworn to claim you, and nothing and no one may put me off from
that oath."

Chakotay took note of something.

"You're injured. You should let me help."

"Heh. Nice try. But I have my prize, and I am not letting it go that
easy."

Just then, Chakotay faded, to be replaced by an impatient best friend,
his arms folded.

"Nog? Hoops, 1600 Hours?!"

The Ferengi Cadet was livid.

"Jake! You ruined my 'Capture-The-Maquis' simulation!"

Grand Nagus Rom had taken his entire immediate family to Risa to
celebrate the 1st anniversary of his appointment.

While keeping faithful to his wife, he found pleasures on Risa, such
as the pliant mood of the guests, when they discussed business. He
also found other pleasures.

"Has my ex-wife called? Well, by all means, keep her on hold."

Eventually, Rom came upon a cave. Exploring it, he found a giant hole,
still being dug. He realized it was his stubborn cousin, missing for
years. He yelled down.

"Sovak, give it up! The Tox Uthtat is just not in there!"

Martok listened to the distant transmission.

"So, Chancellor. Janeway and her crew have yet to arrive?"

Martok nodded at the Hirogen.

"They are expected. With one of our own people on board, the Empire is
also interested in Voyager's fate. Keep this Comm-Code, and I shall
inform you of The Borg's fate, as well."

Then, a Vulcan Starfleet Captain entered.

"Chancellor, I am to ferry the Changeling prisoners."

"Captain, do I know you?"

"We have a mutual acquaintance. I commanded The Saratoga. Sisko was my
XO."

Martok smiled and activated a force-field.

"Security! I have captured the renegade Changeling, Laas."

STARFLEET ACADEMY (Ancient Destroyer Universe)

Cadet Tommy Starnes ran for his very life. He heard the Admiralty had
death squads, but couldn't recall ticking them off.

"What'd I do?"

But the armored personnel inside the transport kept coming, no matter
what. Other cadets who saw this died.

"I am soooo dead!!!"

But to Starnes' amazement, another Cadet appeared in front of him, and
pointed at the transport. The man could have been Starnes' twin, in
some respects.

"Doesn't The Hall ever learn?"

Tommy watched as his lookalike gestured, wiping the transport away.
Peter Kirk looked down at Tommy, and shrugged.

"I don't see it, myself."

QONOS, 2281 (Ancient Destroyer Universe)

Sorel asked Sarek a question about his grandson, Peter Kirk.

"Does he still hate me?"

"Hate is a strong term. He merely wishes to know why you left him with
an insane paternal grandmother. As I would like you to inform him of
his Rihannsu heritage. He and Saavik are---active---and may mistakenly
believe that pregnancy is not possible."

The former Tasorel shrugged.

"No. He must never know that. And Richard rivals Brianna in
instability. It would have been no better."

Just then, a Klingon delegate fell dead on their table. Another
Klingon removed his body.

"Sorry to interrupt."

(In the ADU, Tasorel is the Romulan who would have been the Romulan
Commander in ‘Balance Of Terror’. The Richard is his partner, Richard
Daystrom)

Ambassador Troi sat with two of the late James Kirk’s friends, to know
men like him-and Picard- better.

“I’ve heard he could be inscrutable.”

Chapel raised a finger.

"Spock was twenty times more inscrutable than Jim could ever hope to
be."

Number One, as she was still called, shook her head.

"Chris Pike was more Vulcan than Surak, when it came to
inscrutability. No contest."

Lxwana turned to a nearby terminal.

"Computer, based on known public personality patterns of Captains
Kirk, Spock, and Pike, who was the most inscrutable?"

The computer quickly responded.

"Unable To Comply."

EARTH, 1969

Preparing to leave Gary Seven, Kirk received some disturbing news.

"Cap'n, yuir old pal Finnegan stowed away, blasted drunk! He beamed
down, and we've nae hide nor hair!"

"Wonderful. Mister Seven?"

"I've already locked onto him, Captain. But he's in plain view."

Making their way down to the police station, Kirk and Spock saw
Finnegan about to be tossed into the 'drunk tank.' With him was the
policeman they'd encountered earlier.

"Does---this---belong to you?"

"Jimmy! Go on an' tell im'!"

Kirk decided to silently retrieve Finnegan later that night.

"I've never seen this man before in my life!"

Doctor Pulaski gave welcome news to the older couple.

"With the implants developed for Geordi, you'll be able to see without
a sensor net."

Miranda Jones was ecstatic.

"Thank you, Kate. This has been a dream of mine."

Ann Mulhall was crying.

"A dream of both of ours, for as long as we've been together."

As they left to prepare for the procedure, Kyle Riker walked into his
wife's office.

"Kate? Will's watching his little sister. Ready for lunch?"

"Yes. Kyle, not to be crude, but weren't they the ugliest women you've
ever seen?"

Wisely, Kyle said nothing at all.

Kehelyr nodded.

"So Worf knocked me up, eh? Damned Klingon potency. We only did it
once."

Selar shrugged.

"A saying, crude, but accurate : Once is all it takes.

Will you tell Worf?"

"He's already too worried about that approaching Cryo-ship. Besides,
he'd insist we get married."

"Yes. Perish forbid that parents should provide stability."

Kehelyr smiled.

"You know my Mother?"

Then came a flash of light, and a woman.

"Have either of you seen Q? I know he frequents this rustbucket!"

"No."

"No."

"Damn his eyes."

She vanished. Doctor and patient spoke as one.

"What was that all about?"

Paris was coherent, logical, and from this Tuvok knew he was
exhausted.

"We've already come up with four master fates for your holo-novel
character. Do we really need five?"

Tuvok felt illogical but steadfast.

"It is not so much a matter of need as desire. We will round out my
main fates at five. Proceed."

"Okay. Be'lanna kills you with a baryon sweep. An exploding panel
kills you at relaunch. Chakotay kills you when you try to steal a rare
symbiotic lifeform he's acquired. You plot rebellion in a distant
cavern."

"I need--one more."

"You're--a starship security chief?"

Quark met Worf at the door.

"I know I promised to toast Jadzia. But Daimons Bractor and Letek are
in. Your Enterprise had run-ins with them. I don't want trouble."

Worf nodded.

"Since this is the most reasonable request you've made, I will instead
read Grandfather's legal journals."

Inside, Quark observed the two Daimons arguing over a box.

"It's mine!"

"It's mine!"

"Gentlemen--don't pull blasters, just split whatever it is, or I'll
call The Constable."

Agreeing, they opened the box.

"Greetings! Don't Be Blue! This gift's for you!"

They all three winced, and walked away.

"A Betazoid gift box?"

2400, NEW ORLEANS, EARTH (DS9’s ‘The Visitor’)

Jake Sisko was doing a favor for Worf. Kurn was on Earth to restore
his memories, and Jake was watching the addled Klingon.

"Worms?"

"Most Klingons like gagh."

"If you say so."

An alien came into Jake's home.

"Hello? Ambassador Worf asked me to fetch Kurn. I'm Inton, Hirogen
Ambassador from The Delta Colonies."

Jake nodded.

"Wasn't your father among the first Hirogen to encounter humans?"

"Yes. And your frontline story has initiated many a cocky young
warrior."

Kurn frowned.

"Jake--play it for me again, before I leave."

"Oh---all right."

The selection played.
