Okay, I get in trouble now and then, but that was part of a different
conversation and I am sorry it ended up here. I am smacking the
person upside the head right now!

Although, on reflection... why is the archive so slanted?

Cheers!

The Archive is not so much slatted as a little behind. We're fixing
that. In fact you can expect some major changes as soon as the Award
Season is open in regards to story content ... I'll now hit your two
earlier posts...

>Who, exactly, is archiving at trekiverse?

Archive work at Trekiverse is done by two volunteers, myself and Constable
Katie.

>Is this a personal site?

It is the official archive for this group as well as ASC, as designated
over the years, succeeding the original Joseph Young archive at
ftp.cis.ksu.edu, which was in turn succeeded by a succession of locations
run by Alara Rogers (who brought in the then alt.sex.fetish.startrek
archive into the ASC one) with myself running the index, who handed it off
to a team of Katie, Dina (current ASCEM Moderator), and me. Then Dina
retired.

>Does anyone but me notice that almost a full quarter of the stories

I highly doubt that Laura Goodwin comprises 25% of the 12,000+ stories
listed. Laura is extremely productive, so she does show up a lot. As I
note that she has 4 pages worth at 30 stories per page, she's got at least
120 works archived. She's not the biggest one to have their own
pages. Rob Morris's works rate 8 pages (240+ works) and Suzy Voy rates 10
pages on her own for 300+ works.

Given the current archiving gap (which is decreasing) the shown in worst
light effect may be because we've got the early works only in some cases.

I'm informed that the main archive is up to sometime in early 2002. In the
Pattern Buffer currently comprises stories posted in 2003. 2004 stories
will be added immediately following Awards Season.

All story posts to ASC, ASCA, and ASCEM will eventually reach the archive.

I certainly hope not...

Okay ... well I don't think so. Trekiverse isn't an archive that has any
don't accept rules. It has over 12,000 stories at the moment, which means
that there is quite a number of authors out there, and a lot of the great
ones from ASC & ASCEM past.

Macedon, Peg Robinson, Alara Rogers, Bill Livingston, BGM, Ruth Gifford ...
I could go on.

>Or are all our last names further down the alphabet than G? That is
>also a possibility. I just want to know.

Well, we sort by the entire name, so you, for instance, would be listed
under R, instead of T (we have so many one name authors that other methods
didn't make sense) I note that most of our Vulcan Author tend to chose
names beginning with S or T, so yes, a lot of them are further down the
alphabet that G.

Honestly, I'm looking for a way to make the archive manageable and
increasing archiving speed. I'm also probably going to ask for more help
come end of April (when the Awards Season is over)

As it stands, my commitment to you is that every story posted to ASC,
ASCEM, or ASCA in 2004 will at least be in the Pattern Buffer within 2
weeks of the end of the month that it's posted in save during the Awards
Period (which I intend to have up within a month of the end of it)

What a patient and polite response, Stephen. I don't think I could
have been so pleasent with such a petulant query.
