This time your Coordinator's sequin-covered tux has been
replaced by one made entirely out of black leather, in honor of
Sloan: leather jacket, leather pants, leather shirt, leather tie,
leather cummerbund, leather top hat. It's hotternhell and chafes
something fierce, but such is the price of fashion.

It is with great pride and pleasure that I present:

**The DS9 Golden Orgasm Awards for 2001**

First a hearty round of applause for the heroic and selfless
staff who have made these awards possible: jjuls, datalaur,
Stephen Ratliff, and EmGee.

May I have the envelopes, please. I'll post the full results in another
post, tomorrow; this is the summary, for those who want to cut to the chase, with
URLs for those who want to go directly to the Works of Gold.
The number after each winner is the number of points they won;
voting was by Australian ballot, with 3 points for each first place
vote, 2 for second, and 1 for third. Note also that if there is a
three-way tie for first place, there is no second or third place
award; if there is a tie for second, there is no third place award.

I certainly second that! Just thinking about the amount of work it
took to put all the lists together for all the awards ballots boggles
the mind!

I realize I'm following Mark's lead here, but I wanted to also voice
my appreciation to all of those who read my "Bingo and Kewpies" and
chose to look upon it with favorable eyes and warm thoughts. <g>

And I can't forget to thank Sakalni for starting the "Doctor's Fuh-q
Fest", and for her persuasive ways that got me to change from
"lurker/commenter" mode to "writer" mode. I'm glad she convinced me!

"Bingo and Kewpies" is the only story I've ever written...and when I
started it, I had no idea of how much WORK it would take to get
everyone where I wanted them to be! It made me appreciate all of you
out there who write such great things for the rest of us to enjoy.

Once again, I am overwhelmed by the response here. I love the way the
Fests have of opening the mind to all kinds of interesting pairings,
many of which would have never seen the light of day without
the 'random draw' of the Fest, and I am even more pleased that people
are willing to 'take a chance' on such an unusual pairing as
Bashir/Tomalak. My thanks to all who voted for "Casualties of War"

BASHIR: She was here a moment ago. [Spots her feet, realizing she's fallen
unconscious off-stage] Oh dear.

BGM: [shakily takes to the podium] Wow. I mean. Wow. I couldn't be in

Wow! I'm honored, and thrilled, that this little piece of insanity was
so well-received. Congrats to the other winners and thanks to everyone
who voted, and thanks, as always, to the GO staff. And to the Ig Nobel
committee, for refusing to honor the Internet Toaster and making me
write this in the first place.

Ellen, relurking now.

I had the honor of betaing this story and as I was
doing the first read through I had the odd, but
lovely, experience when a story suspends the reader in
its own rhythm and flow, its own reality. Then I did
the beta and there wasn't much to beta because it was
pretty close to perfection in the first place.

There were times in writing _Talljet Quartet_ when it
was hard work and I wasn't sure I was going to have
the will to be able to finish it. In those tough
spots, I would email whatever I had to my beta, Jane
Skazki, and because Jane S had seen it, betaed it and
said hir usual encouraging things, well, I could
commit to finishing it. And tonight, I am so glad I
did finish it.

Thank you all very much. Writing DS9 and trekslash in
general has been one of the best creative experiences
in my life. I've met wonderful people, learned a
whole lot of stuff and had some fabulous battles now
and then.

_Talljet Quartet_ is the culmination of a lot of
things; thinking and learning and letting characters
evolve in ways I thought they might or hoped they
wouldn't and did anyway. It is the last in the series
about the Brothers Talljet and their families and
adventures in and out of the Federation and in and out
of various Trek characters' beds. And I have had a
wonderful time writing about it.

Thanks to lynn and to Lene T for their proof and gamma
reads of this story. I make enough typos for two, if
not three proofreaders.

And thank you x 1000000000 to Jane Skazi, who betaed
my first story, my last story and everything in
between. I'm sure xe had no idea what xe were letting
hirself in for in October of 1998, but there you have
it. It is one of the finest things in the
trekslasholandia that total strangers can meet and
work together and help each other to create something
that hundreds of people can enjoy or hate or something
between those two, but create something that touches
others in various ways and makes ASCMEL one of the
greatest communities I have ever seen or heard of in
my life; cyber, fantasy or RL.

And for some incredible reason I can't find Jane's
archive url so I hope xe'll post it when xe reads
this. <g>

I have been very lucky here and very happy to be here.
Thank you for these GOs for _Talljet Quartet_.

Wow. Two years in a row.

I'm touched, honored, flattered. Thank you all so very,
very much! And thanks to everyone who has enjoyed my
stories.

Congratulations to all the other winners. Well deserved,
every one!

That was my own reaction when I read your own Talljet Quartet. I read
it on the web site rather than through the news group and I read it
through from start to finish, taking breaks only for unimportant
things like work and sleep. I'd head off to work, or to bed, leaving
the computer on and the cursor right where I'd left off as a bookmark.

That was one hell of a ride and one hell of a job, Karmen! I'd meant
to compliment you on it profusely before now, but could never find the
words, you know? <g> Your ability to write ALL of that, and to keep
it in perspective and true to itself, is nothing short of amazing. I
can only wonder how many hours of work it represents, since it took me
many, many hours to write my own (short and simple, by comparison)
"Bingo and Kewpies".

Thank you, Kima. And thank you for the lovely
feedback. It's never too late to hear it. <g>

Congratulations on your win. I hope you write many
more stories. Some stories get written fast, some
more leisurely. I write like a possessed maniac, but
that doesn't work for everyone. I'm not even sure it
works very well for me, it's certainly hell on my
back.

LL&P and thanks again.

Yours,

Karmen

Wowwee! I was just catching up on my emails when I found this one and gasped
with sheer amazement!! Having only written the one story last year I didn't
expect to win anything, so getting a third for this story is a lovely
surprise. Thanks to all who voted and congratulations to all of the other
winners.
