Have they ever done anything like this?
There have been a number of book series which involve the various crews
of different eras working to resolve a single problem or threat, though
not necessarily directly coordinating with each other across time.
Check out in particular the following:
Gateways (seven volumes: TOS, Challenger, TNG, DS9, VOY, NF, omnibus)
Badlands (two volumes)
The Brave and the Bold (two volumes)
Double Helix (six TNG volumes)
For all the various series that have developed on screen and in the
books, there really are only three major eras, that of the original
series (including the Pike years), that of the Enterprise TV series,
and that of TNG, of which DS9, Voyager, New Frontier, Titan, Typhon
Pact etc. are all essentially contemporaneous. In fact, in the past
couple of years, many of the books set in the latter era have
routinely blurred the lines between the various crews as they
regularly interact with each other or, as with the post-return Voyager
crew, been reassigned amongst them, to the point that many books aren't
even branded by ship series any more, being either simply "Star Trek"
and/or by the particular story, e.g. "Destiny" and "Typhon Pact" rather
than by ship.
