USS BURKE : More new faces.

*** USS BURKE Deck 1 Main Bridge ***
William paused as he stepped off the turbo lift. His bridge was still
mostly disassembled. His chair was gone. As was the Tac station and FCO
seats.
Several teams of DELTA's engineering and repair crews were working at
refitting the old HOOD class Cruiser. Trying to bring it up to a more
modern vessel. At least in appearance. The hardest part to integrate
were the bio-jell packs. The ancient HOODs were designed on a different
power really system.
It would fit. But it needed many, many modifications.
He sighed heavily as he stepped past the work crews.
* at least they put my door back * he mused as he approached his ready
room.
A skeleton crew manned the bridge while they were in space dock. Mostly
newbies and junior officers. He recognized none of them. He stepped over
several pieces of exposed conduit to the door of his room, and entered.
He nodded with satisfaction as he noted the restored room. His desk,
chairs, and even the bulkheads had been replaced.
Time to replace his pictures. He thought to himself as he moved to his
desk.
The door chimed a moment later. He frowned for an instant. "Come."
The doors hissed open to reveal a young woman, with the rank of full
Lieutenant, and a command red collar.
"Yes Left'tenant." he began.
"Sir. Lieutenant Maia Biaje reporting for duty."
"I see." William nodded, " Another example of BUPERS and their 'never
fail' method of inter-fleet communication." William smirked. "And what's
to be your assignment here ?" His voice held the thick accent of one
raised in the British Isle's of Earth.
"I was told to report as the OPERATIONS Manager "
William smiled and nodded. "Of course. At least YOUR chair is still out
there on the Bridge." he frowned in the direction of the bridge." Most
of the crew is on shore leave at the moment. But you are free to use the
ships files to reform your Division as you see fit."
He moved to the small closet and removed an old oil painting of an
ancient three masted ship, from the 1700's.
Then looked around, finally deciding on the bulkhead behind his chair,
and fastened the picture with the adhesive, attached to the wooden
frame.
"That'll due." he nodded.
"Since I'm not likely to get your orders from BUPERS until we're ready
to replace you.. Why don't you tell me where you're from."
"I served as OPS on the CHESAPEAKE Sir." she replied evenly.
"AH yes... Elizabeth's Ship." He nodded." She's a good commander." he
said firmly.
"Yes she was Sir."
"Well, you should have no problem handling OPS on the BURKE."
"I do not anticipate a problem." Maia shook her head.
"Excellent." William nodded. "Mister Oxler is off the ship on leave...
She's Ships Services Officer. But we'll find you quarters..." William
assured her. " I believe you can take Mister Ellisons quarters. I'll
input your Security clearance into the system. For now, your pass word
will be 'Let me in'.
You can change it as soon as you're in."
He said as he moved over to the computer on his desk, and entered the
proper codes to allow her access to the Ships Systems.
"I'll give you a couple days to settle in, we'll have a Staff meeting...
Once all of our staff have reported in."
he stepped closer to her. "Any questions Left'tenant ?"
"None Captain." she replied.
William extended his hand, which she shook. "Then welcome aboard." he
said honestly. "Carry on."
Maia brought herself to attention, then executed an about face, then
went off to find her quarters.
