Runabout Knossos

=B3Its a small ship, intercept at current speeds of 24 minutes=B2 Ensign
Matthews reported.

=B3All stop=B2 Max said as he entered his own command into the helm panel.

=B3Intercept in thirty six minutes=B2 Matthews corrected, taking the warp 4
speed of the Knossos into effect.

=B3Sergeant Klein, Deploy three marines in the engineering and two to the
bridge the bridge to repel boarders, then bring your best marksman with you
to the transporter room=B2 Max ordered, then turned to Ensign Masters and s=
aid
=B3I want a detailed scan of that ship as soon as she=B9s in range.=B2

=B3Aye commander=B2 the young officer replied.

.....

MD 6.050

=B3Detecting forty-one insectoid life signs and two humanoids=B2 Masters
reported.

=B3Where are the humanoids?=B2

=B3Some sort of chamber in the aft section of the ship. One is unconscious=
.
There are two bugs with them in the chamber.

Max thought for a second, then opened the weapons locker and began to equip
himself as he spoke to the ensign. =B3They won=B9t see this coming.=B2

Masters looked at Max quizzilcally jus as the door opened and the pair of
heavily armed marines stepped in and to either side of the small bridge.

=B3Get down to the transporter room=B2 Max said to the ensign. =B3I=B9ve p=
rogrammed
the transport coordinate for that aft room on the bug ship. On my signal
you=B9ll initiate transport and then stand by to beam the two humanoids,
Klein, her private and one bug the instant I drop shields again. You=B9ll
have to maintain constant lock. I=B9ve given SGT> Klein three extra patter=
n
enhancers, so they=B9ll be easy to track, but I expect the bugs will try to
interfere.=B2

=B3Aye commander=B2 the young ensign replied as he got up and walked aft to=
the
transporter room, where SGT Klein and PVT Hirsh waited.

MD 6.0056

As the bug ship approached, she dropped out of warp and started actively
scanning the Knossos, no doubt surprised to find the federation ship at a
dead-stop, venting plasma from the port nacelle and with a floating trail o=
f
debris drifting aft of the ship. Of course, the venting was deliberate and
the =B3debris=B2 was the wreckage of the four probes, destroyed under Knoss=
os=B9
own phasers for just that particular effect.

The L'we'jij'yi'e'c,P'ty'la'hy'a came to a stop, scanned the debris, then
lowered her shields to send a four-bug scouting party onto what they
believed to be the damaged Federation runabout. The second her shields wen=
t
down to initiate transport, Max gave the signal and both ships=B9 transport=
er
systems deposited their respective boarding parties on their opposite
number. Max, however, was faster, immediately firing his micro-torpedo and
all phasers directly at what he believed to be the engines of the bug ship
as he raised shields. The bug captain also raised shields, but his weapons
fire was delayed a few seconds by the surprise of it all, and thus fired on
the shielded runabout.

Both ships were hit hard, the Knossos on account of being severely
out-gunned, and the L'we'jij'yi'e'c,P'ty'la'hy'a due to her shields being
down at the moment of impact.

The following battle took all of about ten seconds. Klein and Hirsh quickl=
y
slapped the pattern enhancers onto the two humans, lying side-by-side on
some sort of medical bed, and on the nearest bug who was tending to them.
Before the bug on security could draw its weapon and fire, they were gone.

Max banked the runabout hard, narrowly avoiding the bug ship=B9s large
particle beam, while continuing to pepper the larger ship with largely
ineffectual phaser fire. He could hear the fight taking place in
engineering, but tuned it out as he was suddenly back in his own element,
piloting an nimble craft while trying to get on his enemy=B9s tail, which
happened to be where the microtorpedo had struck the then-unshielded bug
ship, resulting in the bugs=B9 aft-shield being all but useless.

The bug pilot did his best to keep his unprotected stern away from the
smaller but slower Federation pilot, but an ace fighter-jock the bug was
not, and barely 10 seconds after that first shot, Max had the Knossos lined
up behind the L'we'jij'yi'e'c,P'ty'la'hy'a as he gave Ensign Masters the
signal while simultaneously dropping shuelds and firing his second
microtorpedo and both phaser banks.

=B3Cargo recovered Commander=B2 Ensign Masters announced just as Max put th=
e
shields back up and the bug particle beam tore through the not-yet-fully
charged shield, taking out the torpedo tube and dropping the shield again,
permanently. The bug tac officer obviously was targeting weapons, but
without shields they would be vaporized if that particle beam hit them
again.

Not taking the time to warn anyone that inertial dampeners were only at 20%=
,
Max punched maximum warp and headed back in the direction of the Circe,
knocking over anyone not securely seated.

Max then took a moment to read all of the sensor data and noticed that the
bug ship was still moving at impulse, suggesting that their warp drive
wasn=B9t back online yet.

=B3Commander, this is PVT Willis, boarding party has been neutralized.=B2

=B3Von Hess to Circe=B2 Max called on long-range comms, =B3We are returning=
home
with a few guests. The bug ship is damaged and moving at Impulse, you migh=
t
not get a better chance at them.=B2
