He couldn't believe his ears when he heard the latest calls from the Bearcat.
The Captain had ordered to abandon the ship. A few minutes later the first
escape-pods left the saucer-section heading off the heavily damaged vessel. The
crew had set a final course for the Bearcat heading out of system and danger.
Excalibur could imagine the thoughts of her CO. Maybe they would be able to
reactivate the Thunderbolt-class after the battle. After a short glance to his
tactical display he knew why the crew had given up their ship. All major
systems were almost completely damaged. Heavy hull-breaches could be seen with
unsupported eyes as well as several fires when the ship passed through the
squad of fighters.
"Excalibur to Alpha. Give them a little help until they get picked up. I'll
organise a greyhound for them."
[Affirmative, Excalibur.] came the confirmation from Bargain.
"Excalibur to FleetCommand. Come in."
[TITANIC here, Excalibur. What is it?]
"BEARCAT has abandoned ship and the crew in the pods could need some pick up."
[Understood, Excalibur.]
"Any information about Colonel Clark?"
[He's been last reported on Centerpoint by SFFRT7.]
"Thanks Titanic. Excalibur out."
[Oh Lord! Sayeret! The killers are loose! The battle seems not to go well on
Centerpoint.]
"It looks like, Fox."
[Incoming torpedos! Capital fire.]
Without any further delay the squad spread wide from their current position.
All the fighters were able to get out of the deadly zone the explosions of the
torps created near Centerpoint. Some Horvauk fighters were not that lucky but
they regrouped fast and started an attack-run against two federation
marine-dropships.
"Ok guys. Give the marines a helping hand. Kick the Horvis hard."
[Flight-3 engaging]
[Flight-4 engaging]
"Flights 1 and 2 follow me."
Almost a half hour they were busy protecting dropships, downing fighters and
drawing off enemy-fire from federation-capitals.
At last Excalibur got near Centerpoint when following a Horvauk fighter. His
two comrades were with him. Eager to get the damn bastard Drake pursued him
straight and tried to get a lock on him. Then the moment of success came. His
phaser-guns blazed their energy into the enemy-fighter. Suddenly the
Horvauk-slave decelerated with full reverse-thrusters. Excalibur couldn't help.
He had gotten too near to avoid collision so he ejected. The two fighters
crashed into each other and exploded. The gravo-pressure of the ejection
pressed him into the seat when the rockets of the escape-pod fired.
He could hear a faint hissing sound and knew what it was. The pod was leaking.
The air inside of it was slowly escaping into space. He opened a channel on his
commlink.
"Excalibur to Alpha. Bargain is in command now. I had to eject and will try to
reach Centerpoint."
His voice should give them a moral boost. He knew it would be more than
difficult to reach the base. The small leak in the pod made it almost
impossible to navigate with the small thrusters the pod was equipped with.
Although he was near the station, he could already see moving shadows behind
bulkheads, it would cost him a lot of work to land the pod on the base.
Drake opened his seatbelts and got himself into the emergency-life-suit. Then
he checked through his weapons. He had a phaser-rifle a standard-phaser, a
knife and some smoke-grenades with him as well as a lot of energy-packs for the
phasers. The small medkit was another helpful addon.
When he turned back to the front-window of the pod he could see that he was
near a dockbay of the station. *Must be the 17th deck of the base, military
ring. Shit, will be a hot touch-down in the middle of the Horvis.*
