Unfortunately, I have to agree with Dickhead Melrose--it really didn't
seem like a dirty hit. Not every hit that results in injury is a
penalty. But I've been wrong before--what do y'all think?

I did love the handshake line (which Katie Baker also mentioned in her
column). Both Hanzal and Doan were not exactly friendly with some of
the Kings' players during the handshakes. I can't wait to hear their
quotes: "I can't believe I shook that guy's friggin' hand!"

No, but in the new NHL, you can be fined for telling the truth or
calling a spade a spade, (or a fucking shovel for that matter)
Doans interview was as good as it gets as far as looking into what a
professional athlete really feels like, rather than the sanitized crap
we normally get

Id be pissed too, and as far as the handshaking lineup, I have a hard
time being all yuk yuk, jolly hockey sticks in a lineup after a close
game, and thats old man's hockey-I couldnt imagine if it were at the
Professional level.

Nice to see some real emotion

It looked to me to be mostly a full body hit - leading with the shoulder, which is where the initial contact was . I did think Brown had his leg out, but I couldn't tell you if it looked like he *intentionally* was going for the knee. I can certainly understand why anyone at ice level who saw a teammate being leveled like that might be upset. At home I had the luxury of video replay - but as it happened? Hard to call, other than to say that if any of the on-ice officials had even the slightest doubt they should have called it. They called everything else - "Roughing" has to be the most marginal penalty they have... Don't know what to do? Think you should do *something*? Ahh, yes! a *Roughing* penalty, that'll show 'em you're not to be trifled with...

Suspensions, though? A sternly-worded "Watch your conduct, and give me $2500" seems adequate if they're going to be doing anything at all, even mentioning suspension is just dumb, considering the league's track-record with assessing other suspensions.

As I was listening to the original interview, I admit it was almost embarrassing how emotional he was - not because he was being a "crybaby" but that he was just unraveling right there with a recorder (or two, or twenty) in his face. Raw? You bet. The last few months here, starting right about in February when they 11-1, has been one high after another, and as a long-time fan it was pretty intense for *me*, I can only imagine what any of them might be experiencing. The Coyotes might not have had the talent level of a lot of teams - something we've been continually reminded of by everyone with access to the internet, a microphone, or newspaper column, but they did get as far as they did by hard work, and being a *very* tight group. The frustration is regrettable by league standards, the passion is understandable by human standards. One more thing to learn in a season of continually coming up against new things to learn.
