THE SCORE: reports rumours continue to swirl about the struggling St. Louis Blues, the latest involves the Pittsburgh Penguins. Apparently both clubs are working on a multi-player deal that would see the Blues ship goalie Patrick Lalime to the Penguins along with two defencemen to the Penguins in exchange for goaltending prospect Marc-Andre Fleury and other players.
the pens want to trade fluery and are looking for a defenseman, how about a deal involving jovo for fluery? jovo is unrestricted at the end of this season and there's no guarantee that the canucks can fit him under the cap. if he has a good year and olympic campaign, he could command close to niedermayer type figures. i know, are defence will look like crap if we do that; kinda makes you wish they would have signed nieds in the summer, then flipped jovo in a package for fluery back then... hindsight is 20/20.

Hmm. I'm not sure St Loo has anything left in spare defensement to trade. They have a couple of good ones and then it just drops right off...

Probably gonna cause a flap by saying so, but right now goaltending isn't the Canucks biggest problem - and don't get me wrong, I don't think they've been terrible, but everyone could get better - additional scoring is what they need. Not a huge Jovo fan, but he makes goals happen (although sometimes for the wrong team), and that is what we don't want them to lose.

Big hole on D + Big bust in net?
No thanks.
I'm predicting that MA Fleury will not be the impact goalie his first round selection makes him out to be. I'm just not sold on his ability. At the very least, I don't think he'll be an impact goalie for another 4 or 5 years. It's pretty tough to give up a #1 Dman for that kind of potential. Even if the Pens shipped back a Tarnstrom or a Jackman (or both?), I'd still have a hard time giving up an impact player like Jovo.

This is why, traditionally, goalies are not picked so high in the draft. There is just too much uncertainty about them - they take a long time to develop, and the things that make a good goalie become great often aren't discovered until they are well into their 20's, or even 30's. I mean, how long was Hasek a relatively unknown backup in Chicago before he became a Goalie God?
Perfect!!! Let's trade a top defenseman for a never been goalie. Fleury hasn't played well since his first World Junior tourney. If he hadn't been drafted so high no one would even remember his name except for scoring the winning goal for the US.

Hasek was a Goalie God in Europe for years before even coming to the NHL. And that was at a time where a large portion of the best Europeans (Russians, Czechs and quite a few of the best Swedes and Finns) were still playing in Europe.

hey, no need to be sarcastic... all i was suggesting is if jovo can not be signed, why not consider a trade which would bring a goalie of fluery's potential here? it's not like i said jovo for fluery straight up, other players would have to be involved. remember, jovo can sign anywhere he wants after this season... i hear he likes florida.

Did he always play roller hockey though? I have heard that sent some of his NHL coaches right up the wall.
LOL.. You know what's really fun? If you have a good friend who happens to be a dyed in the wool 'Hawks fan, remind em of the days when Belfour and Hasek were goalies in their system. And at the same time too. Then stand back. Of course, this has just been my experience, others may not be so... explosive...

Anyways, Chicago were fortunate that the 4th rounder acquired in the trade with Buffalo turned out to be Eric Daze.
I guess they traded Hasek thinking they already had their No. 1 goalie in Belfour, but what were the circumstances behind Belfour's exit from Chicago?
Anders Elkjćr Johansen wrote: > Anyways, Chicago were fortunate that the 4th rounder acquired in the > trade with Buffalo turned out to be Eric Daze.
Daze has been their cornerstone for years, this is true.
> I guess they traded Hasek thinking they already had their No. 1 goalie > in Belfour, but what were the circumstances behind Belfour's exit from > Chicago?
According to my friend, who lives and breathes the 'Hawks, it was Belfour's enormous ego, and inability to get along in the lockerroom (which is something I don't think I ever heard said of Hasek) - however, officially I think it was said he didn't like his lack of playing time (or the fact that Jeff Hackett was playing better than him. Remember the flap in Dallas where he walked out for a few games when Turco was hot and getting the starting nod? Kinda like that). There is one account that he had his corner in the lockerroom staked off, even taking the second goalie's section, and telling Hackett, "This is my spot. You sit over there (points across room)." Since my friend was close to certain individuals, I don't have much reason to discount the story, but I can't say first hand. Chicago did what they could, and sent him as far away from themselves as possible. Belfour stunk it up in San Jose, and signed with Dallas about 24 hours after reaching free agency.
I seem to vaguely recall a story about Hasek going apeshit in a (roller?) hockey game somewhere is Europe in the last several years, and seriously injuring some other player. Does anyone else recall hearing about this?

"Hasek investigated: Czech police are investigating former Red Wings goaltender Dominik Hasek after he allegedly beat another player unconscious during a weekend in-line hockey game in Prague, the Web site iDnes reported. The Web site, the online arm of the country's leading daily Mlada Fronta Dnes, quoted a police spokeswoman as saying the investigation surrounded whether Hasek "engaged in punishable actions in trying to injure" someone. Hasek, who retired from the NHL after winning the Stanley Cup with the Wings in 2002, was playing as a skater for the Bonfire Strida in a Czech in-line hockey league when he and the other player made body contact, according to the Czech in-line hockey association. The iDnes site said Hasek broke the other player's nose, and knocked him unconscious after hitting him repeatedly with his hockey stick."
Hmmm, I guess I must have missed the stories describing the hoardes of hockey fans booing him in every arena. From the sounds of it, HE COULD HAVE KILLED THAT GUY!

should we allow this horrible bully to play in the NHL? *shocked looks*

The canucks could hire the guy he allegedly assaulted and pay him 25k to play in winny. Then bring him up for games vs ottawa and get a bertuzzi like stipulation from NHL which has now set the precedent.

Wow, I had forgotten all about that one... I found this: "Hasek has denied any wrongdoing since the incident. Pavel Jelinek, Hasek's lawyer, said in a statement that media reports about the incident were exaggerated.
"In fact, Mr. (Martin) Sila did not have any fractures, not a broken nose, no teeth knocked out, no cuts, not a single scratch or bruise," Jelinek said."

I guess it depends on which accounts are true - a few I read said there was an on-ice collision, and Hasek retaliated with a cross-check sending Sila to the ice, others said Hasek knocked Sila down, sat on him, and started whacking him with his stick - terms like neurlogical ward, coma and brain damage were bandied about, although these are from media sources, and there doesn't seem to be any published eye-witness accounts; You'd think *someone* coulda whipped out the ole instamatic whilst there was neck-whapping going on (boo-shaka-bow-bow). I can't find any information more recent than summer of 2003, though.
