D line can't put any pressure on AC, the D backs can't cover anyone,
the linebackers and D backs can't tackle anyone one on one, the
receivers drop balls at critical times killing drives, the special team
can't open up any seams.......
........ other than that, we got them where we want them.

After the 3rd quarter, I decided that I needed to get out of the house.
Hopped in the car & headed out for a drive. Being a masochist, I put the
game on the radio. Our local Kamloops station Radio NL (an NW affiliate
of sorts) carries the game. The moment the game was over and Rick Ball
and Giulio were going to have their post game show, NL switches over to
its NW feed and suddenly I'm listening to Charles Adler talking to a
woman about Sarah Palin. I decide to try Team 1040, which is hit and
miss for a signal in the daytime, and get a solid 10 minute block of
commercials followed by NFL radio. This leads me to ask "What radio
station WAS carrying the game? CFUN?"
Radio coverage for sports in Kamloops is always suspect anyway. If the
Blazerz happen to be playing, there is no chance of getting a Canucks or
Lions game on the radio.

The six best teams make the playoffs. So if the 4th team in the east or west
has a better record than than the 3rd best team in the other conference, the
better team crosses over to the other division playoffs.
This year:
West East
Sask 21 pts Montreal 30 pts
Calgary 21 pts Hamilton 18 pts
Edmonton 18 pts Winnipeg 14 pts

So BC takes Winnipeg's spot.

East. It's supposed to compensate for the occasional gross imbalance between
the divisions.

The company which owns TEAM 1040, also owns what at one time was CFUN.
A couple weeks back they changed cfun's format to all sports TEAM 1410.
So now TEAM 1410 is the home of the Lions, along with shows like Rome,
McCown, Dan Patrick, ESPN's sports insiders etc.

Thanks. Makes a bit of sense to me now. I thought for a moment they
might have missed too many field goals and gotten too many points from

It's probably because I'm a homer, but it seems to me that
Rod Black (and one or two other announcers) always seem to
be more excited when the team playing against the Lions
score than when the Lions score. It's like they're
privately cheering for the Lions' opponents regardless of
who those opponents are.

eliminate TWO measly teams!
And then somehow BC, with an 8 - 10 record, ends up playing
in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

As usual, the offensive Troika tried to get cute and out-thought themselves.
They came out with some stupid complicated play action game plan which
fooled nobody. Didn't it occur to them to keep the backs in protecting
Printers instead of running all over the place, and allow him to get the ball
deep ? He had no time at all.
Of course with the D not getting within 10 yds of the Montreal receivers, it
didn't matter.
They could have switched QBs and the result would have been the same.
AC would have been carried out on a stretcher.

Oh, and there was no running game.
And the tackling was sloppy.
And the defensive packages were ineffective.
Still...is it too soon to have the we'll-get-them-next-year going?
Because the Lions did not look entirely bad. I think they have their
QBs set with Printers and Lulay. They'll get Angus back and can
peddle McCallum because the kid kicker they have is good. They need
to toughen the offensive line and get a lot more pass pressure on D,
so that's where they'll have some focus, but the rest of the team is
workable.

recently.

I enjoyed it but was young then and didn't know any better.
How many games did they play - 70 or so? Man, they must
have played each other 12 times a year or so in the regular
season. The skill level of the players was great, but the
structure of the league - not so much.

Despite my gripes, I wouldn't want to see the CFL collapse.
I would like to see it expand to ten teams, though. One in
Ottawa and one in the Maritimes would be great.

The 6-team structure began in 1943-43 in which they played a 50-game
schedule. They increased it to a 60-game schedule in 1946-47. Then in
1949-50 it got bumped up to a 70-game season which held fast until
1967-68 when the league doubled it's size in a major expansion.

that good? Missed blocks, blown tackles, fucked-up pass routes, their game
had it all. One play Printers must have had 6 or 8 seconds to get the pass
away and couldn't find an open reciever. At no time did the Lions look like
they had practiced for the game. One on one, in the trenches and down field,
Montreal had better athletes.
I can't remember a worse Lions game and I remember when Jerry Tagge threw
passes to Jim Young.
