I read about this earlier today and thought it was weird. Pettinger says
he understands, knows he was just brought in because of injuries, etc. I
guess maybe Gillis/V are just giving him a chance to earn a paycheque.
At minimum wage, he makes over $6,000 for playing a game of hockey. Not bad.

I don't know his minor league contract, I would guess it's aboot 75K.
Being up with the Canucks is a real bonus for him.
The season is calculated this year at 193 days, and the player gets paid
1/193 for every day he's on the active roster. His NHL contract is 500K
and he was on the roster [ cleared and sent down today ] for 20 days.
So he made $51,813.48. Not bad is right.
Of course in comparison, Luongo made $777,202.07 in that period. :-)

I think the Canucks have the most depth of talent I have ever seen on this
team, not the most talent at the top end, the most depth. Goal is solid, and
at least serviceable three deep, D is as talented top to bottom as it has
ever been, and they seem to have a lot of quality forwards they can plug in
without really missing a beat. Now if they can just stop tanking against bad
teams they might move up the standings a little faster.

every day while he's injured, even though he may be sent
back down as soon as he's healthy?

Yep, same with Bolduc. Their salary doesn't apply to the cap, but
but they get paid the full nhl pop. Pettinger should have sprained
his ankle in the 3rd period and sat on his couch and watched his
bank account fill up. :-)

Maybe THAT's why players are hardly ever put on waivers and
then allowed to play a game!

Anders I thought , yes the LTIR player's salary does count toward the
cap. You are allowed be over the cap by the amount of a LTIR players
salary. A player has to be injured for 10 games or 24 days I think
before he can go on LTIR, except in cases like Demitra and Schneider
who were injured before the season started. The Flames got in trouble
because they were in the last 10 games of the season, so the big
salaries of injured Regehr et al could not exceed the cap.
Does that make sense?

Ah, I thought it was $500k/82 games. That's less than half what I
thought it was, but still a pretty decent payday.
