I've got my screen saver set up to kick in after 5 minutes
of non-use. Usually, it just goes on and on until I start
using the computer. However, lately, I've noticed that the
saver will start and then, after a couple of minutes, will
stop and the main screen shows, as though something was
using the computer. Then, after five minutes, the screen
saver will kick back in and then, again, a few minutes later
it stops and the main screen shows.

Any ideas, short of ghostly possession, what might be
causing the screen saver to stop?

it's probably virus definintions downloading from your ISP or virus
protection program (AVG, Symantec, etc). This a good thing; and update you
need to do.

Press Control+Alt+Delete to start Task Manager, see what programs and
processes are running. U have a firewall on, yes? Either Windoze, another
firewall. You didnt mention what OS you're using (operating system).

Check your machine for spyware, run ad-aware or malwarebytes, both are free.

I'm using Windows XP and the firewall is on.

As far as downloading virus definitions, this just started
a week or two ago, and I haven't made any major changes to
any of my programs.

But thanks for the suggestion about starting the Task
Manager. I'll try that.

An ad-aware check it will be. Thank-you.
