From espn.com today:

The $28,000 message

Some fans will go to great extremes to get their point across. Not many will
put their money where their mouth is. Larry Weinberger isn't your typical
fan. The Islanders' season ticket holder was so upset after a recent 5-0
loss to the Rangers that he spent $28,000 to buy a full-page ad in Newsday,
according to a report in The San Francisco Chronicle. Weinberger's message
was clear: "We, your loyal fans, showed up! We braved freezing weather and
came out looking for a great game. We came out to support you. Where was the
energy, the excitement, the electricity, the intensity? Come on now ... We
deserve a better effort." That will serve as money well spent if the Isles
can turn it around and make a run at the Stanley Cup.

..........

jeez, for $28k the guy should have hired a copywriter for another few bucks.

bucks.

We should take out an ad. I assume it costs less for an ad in the papers
here than in NYC? And it doesn't have to be a full page--a half-page ought
to do nicely. Let's take up a collection.
