Seeing as the subject comes up in here occasionally, thought I'd add
one to the list.

I was looking for a good imperial stout, and I was fortunate enough
to run into an old friend this week who's a dedicated brewer (and is
in fact finishing up a degree in fermentation science and already has
a job lined up at a brewery, albeit in Oregon). I was thinking of
buying a six pack of Victory Storm King, which is a good beer but
overpowering and a little too sweet (at 10+% alcohol). So my friend
recommended "Old Heathen" from Weyerbacher. It's a bit pricey
(especially in NY) but damn, I gotta say it's the smoothest and best
strong stout I have ever tasted. Pick some up if you can find it at a
reasonable price.

Thanks for the tip. Old Heathen from Weyerbacher...I guess I'll pick it up
just to try it at an unreasonable price if I have to. It's all relative
anyhow since beer is far cheaper than wine even if you buy the best of the
best.

Thanks

I visited the Weyerbacher brewery during the summer. Interesting little
facility....I toured the Victory brewery just the day prior so it was
enlightening to see the different philosophies involved with the larger vs.
smaller breweries. Weyerbacher had the all-time most aptly named beer,
"Blithering Idiot", which has something like an 12% alcoholic content. They
experiment with all sorts of crazy concoctions and are well known for their
once-every-five-year brews. As a sideline visit, about 1/2 mile from the
Weyerbacher brewery is one of the largest fireworks stores in the East.
They sell commercial size explosives, not bottle rockets and black snakes.
The hitch is you have to have an out of state license to purchase them, no
PA license works so for all of us Pa. residents, we always need to have a
friendly, out of state drunk to help us out.

Beer - something I know aboat. And you mentioned stout ...

My favorites are:

MACKESON XXX STOUT - From England, and brewed by Young's, under
direction of Whitbred. Absolutely delicious. Sweet, but not overbearing.

LEFT HAND MILK STOUT - Left Hand Brewing Company, Longmont Colorado.
Delicious. Makes you happy. http://www.lefthandbrewing.com/

SAMUEL ADAMS IMPERIAL STOUT - Boston Beer Company. It's in the Rissuan
Imperial Stout style, and it makes you feel, well, imperial.

LANCASTER MILK STOUT - Lancaster Brewing Company, Lancaster PA. Very
good rendition.

P-Dub: My mouth is watering writing this post.
