Ulanov benching: a good sign?

So I heard on the audio feed that Ulanov was benched after his
great pass in the first period. True/untrue? If it is true,
perhaps it's a sign that Low will bench people who screw up
consistently (unless the person's name is MEssier).
Did anyone watching MSGN or at HSBC get to see Ulanov's reaction
to said benching?
Interesting that the ESPN summary on their website makes no
mention of his gaffe, even after they made a big deal of it
on the 1am ET SportsCenter. (I think they get their story from
AP, but still.)

Well, Ughhhlanov doesn't have that NY "can-do-no-wrong" halo that certain
players do have, most notably Mark Mercenarier.

They didn't show it. Hopefully he won't be on the bench for the rest of the
year. Send him to Hartford, let someone claim his sorry ass off waivers if we
are lucky.
Of course, it didn't help that Purinton followed up Ulanov's awful play with an
ill-advised elbow to Varada's face (luck he didn't get a double or major with
that piece of work).

Jeanerette screaching on and on about nothing. God damn Center Ice will
ALWAYS show the Buffalo feed, regardless of where the game's at. For
instance, this season's home opener against Buffalo. Sounds like a likely
candidate for MSG, right? No! I despise no hockey broadcaster as much
(Gary Thorne included) as I do Rick Jeanerette. His color man though, is
quite good in my opinion.

I think this is a good sign. Low said something to the effect that he
had seen enough poor passing from Ulanov and he couldn't stand watching
it anymore.
We have 8 NHL caliber defensemen on the team (including Van Impe). So there
is no reason to tolerate sloppy or undisciplined play. Ulanov should be
sat until he gets his head into the game.
I didn't notice any reaction from Ulanov. They didn't show him on the
bench but they did show him walking from the bench to the locker room
with a deadpan expression.

They mentioned during the radio broadcast of the game that Low had
specifically told him never to make that particular play again.
It's bad enough to be told by the caoch not to make that play and then to
go ahead and do it anyway.
It's bad enough to make that play and give up a goal.
Put the two together and you've pretty much signed your own death warrent.

The problem is that he's an even bigger upside for the team we are playing
against.
Ughhhlanov is a waste of space most of the time...half-assed defense and passes
so ill-advised they would make Jeff Beukeboom cringe... At least Chris Tamer
would fight on a regular basis for the team if asked.
We have a surplus of defensemen...Kloucek can knock 'em on their asses, and if
we can keep Purinton's dirty streak in check, Ulanov is just that...a surplus
extra defenseman....let him hone his fundamentals for Hartford or some other
team and let us find someone else who is willing to do some nasty hitting for a
spot with the big team (there has got to be SOME defenseman who would sacrifice
the body to show he can cut it in the NHL).

whole new mix of players so we may as well see what he can do under these
circumstances. If he can contribute something then fuck the past. If
not, nothing lost in the trying.

Partly it's because we don't have many good defensive defensemen.
But, IMO, it's mostly because the forwards don't know how to play
defensively, and the defensemen are overburdened in their own
zone. They are improving in this area from last season, but that's
not saying much.

Hmm...I feel Lefebvre is a bit of a wimp, and think of him as
a small Ulanov. I would like to know why Van Impe isn't getting
more time at the expense of Ulanov--Low could scratch Ulanov
and see what Van Impe can do.

It does seem like it'd be worth giving Lefebvre another shot. He did
pretty well when with the Avalanche. He never did anything as
egregious as Ulanov's "assist" the other night, anyway.
