$1.7 per year seems a bit high to me, no? I do like Stralman, but I'm
not sure I like him that much. (Still, who's better?)

What's the alternative? He played well in the system for the most part.
Logged significant minutes. Fucked up minimally for the most part. Made some
important offensive plays here and there. Doesn't take many dumb penalties.
He's young. Has some more upside potentially. Can step in on the point.
More importantly at the end of the day it's only 2 years at $1.7. Where as
there aren't very many better options. They don't want to overpay for
somebody that may not be worth it in the end. This contract is small enough
to get rid of if need be. And they don't put too much pressure on some young
guy who isn't ready. And Sauer is still in limbo. He has shown himself to be
serviceable at the very least. With some flashes of something better. I
don't think it's very risky.

I wouldn't say there's any "news". But Maloney said that Sauer is making
good progress. I would take that with a grain of salt given the nature of
the problem. But it's better to hear than when Tortorella said that there is
no good news at all and his future is uncertain.
