I think that in the NHL, when there is a decent chance of a lockout
happening, it usually will happen. The powers that be from either side
always give the impression that they are there to show how immovable and
dedicated to their causes they are rather than skills in negotiation or
effective compromise. Some negotiators sharpen their horns in view of the
opposition and some have them sharpened long before they appear with a smile
and extended arm.

I guess what we can hope for is that the lockout doesn't last longer than
Gaborik's recovery time. Then it might actually be viewed as a benefit to
the team in some way.

Hopefully there will be at least a shortened season, maybe like in
1995 when they started I believe it was in January.

That season was one of the worst ever. I'd rather see no NHL at all
than be subjected to that again. If they can't start by early December,
just forget the whole season.

Well... to be fair... that was a particularly terrible season in your memory
most likely BECAUSE you're a Rangers fan. That season was especially
excruciating for us fans coming off the Cup win. And not only did they have
less time to work their way out of the cup hangover but it even seemed like
the cup hangover was somehow amplified by the extra time to celebrate. They
didn't take the season seriously until it was far too late. They were
plagued by ridiculous injuries and surgeries. And Smith didn't let Zubov get
his Surgery until late in the season because he though Zubov was just being
a pansy. The way they slumped into the playoffs and the way they were
completely unprepared to deal with the Legion of Doom left a terrible
feeling for that season. Had they repeated you probably wouldn't remember it
as such a terrible season.

Perhaps. But the hockey still sucked even when I wasn't watching the
Rangers. At least that's what I remember. But I also remember that I
scored a big goal for that 1994 Cup winner, so perhaps my memory is
faulty. I doubt it though.

I remember that goal. Your memory is fine.

i think Keith's Alzheimer's kicked in. i specifically remember Pavel scoring
the tying and winning goals. To this day I don't understand why they gave
the Rangers the cup. The fix was in I guess.
