Not too shabby based on stats, 16 pts in 32 games, 5 being goals. Did Tampa Bay let him go due to their salary cap. Anybody know about him?

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Defenseman Cory Murphy has signed a two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils.
Contract terms were not disclosed on Friday but Murphy's salary will be determined by whether he plays for the Devils or one of their minor league affiliates.
Murphy split last season with Florida, Rochester in the AHL and Tampa Bay. He had five goals and 11 assists in 32 NHL games. He was claimed off re-entry waivers by the Lightning in January after starting the season with the Panthers.
Murphy, who spent six seasons playing in Europe, added two goals and four assists in five AHL appearances.

this looks like a good pickup. Nothing too flashy, but solid. Can't be worse than what we have...

He's a right shot. PP QB. Not a good defenseman. Maybe an upgrade to Salmela. Oh well, you need to create depth with those always-fun Olympic year schedules.
the right shot thing gives him a big advantage. I think he'll play, this year's Mike Mottau, in that no one expects him to play (although I was scared he would), but he will.

If his defense is no worse than Mottau, and he comes with an offense upside, then our D has potentially improved!
