Watching the kid at the centre position has been revealing. It looks to
me like Bergy landed a good one with him and you have to tip your hat.
I'm not saying he's a #1 centre, far from it. But I do believe he'll
make a good #2/#3 centre. He has size, can take a faceoff, isn't afraid
to muck it up and hit and he can score the odd one now and again - in
short he's everything DD isn't and that brings me to my point.

Why has Danault suddenly developed at centre? The answer is simple -
because Therrien had no choice with Galchenyuk and DD out. Its like
Groundhog Day for this coach no? Didn't the same thing happen last year?
DD goes down, suddenly MT has no choice but to go with Galchenyuk and lo
and behold, look what happens. Why, he's a #1 centre. Of course MT knew
it all along he said. Was just waiting for the right time. Uh-huh, ok.
How long before he trots out the same BS with Danault. We'll hear all
about how thats why they went after him, knew he could play centre but
he didn't want to put undue pressure on him and he knew, he just knew
now was the time.

Its kind of funny/galling to watch players develop not BECAUSE of Michel
Therrien but DESPITE him. That's our coach - the genius developer of
young players.

Pretty bad when moves forced upon MT have had better results then moves when he had a choice

And then... MT will find a way to stake (or at least insinuate) credit for it, all the same.

Danault and Byron are pretty clearly on the expansion draft "protect" list atm I'd say.

Who other then MT believes it is smart to pair your best offensive defence man, Weber with Emelin who when it comes to offense is a 3rd pairing defencemen.

Danault aside, whom I think is developing into a good Pleacanc replacement, I consider Byron to be tge more promising. I think Byron has a better goal scoring upside.

I've channel-surfed onto minutes here and there of Habs games in the last few weeks, and even dwelled for a while on a couple. I would say in those few weeks, Byron has been the most "noticeable" Habs forward to me. You might have to watch more consistently to really judge his overall play, but in the snippets I've seen, he has stood out.

Pacioretty, Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Radulov (if signed), Shaw are the 5 guys I felt were automatic protections for the expansion draft. Byron is #6. Danault is #7. Assuming all continues approximately as it has so far.

Plekanec might have had a chance to put himself on the list, but the way Bryron and Danualt have stepped up and he has stepped down, I think he has made any decision Bergevin might have anticipated having to make into essentially a no-brainer. And there is very little chance that Plekanec would be picked even if left exposed now, so it's even more of a no-brainer.

Oh I don't see Plekanec being protected. No way. OTOH, he likley wont
get picked up though with his contract so we're stuck with him which
isn't terrible. He will make an excellent defensive centre on the 3rd or
4th line albeit an overpriced one.
