The ECHL has turned into a circus ! First that nasty incident Involving Pee Dee and P-cola** and now this !! Tonight in Birmingham , in a game plagued by bad calls / lack of calls and cheap shots , there was a total loss of control on & off the ice !!! A nasty hit between Charlotte Checker Eric Bolton and Birmingham Bull Garry Gulash made a heated game even hotter. The gloves came off and it was an ugly fight. Tempers flared and Bolton actually head butted Gulash !! So they were pulled apart & placed in the box, but they were both so disorderly the ref sent them out. Here is where it really gets wild. Bolton & Gulash meet OFF ICE and duke it out !! The officials are skating around in circles, both teams are gathered at the hall watching this fight ,for 3 or 4 minutes and the game is delayed for another five minutes at least.. Paramedics reported that Bolton took a stick and tryed to bash Gulash over the head but Gulash held his arm up to shield himself & Bolton connected with his arm instead. Rumor has it that Gulash may have a broken arm. The officials made a weak attempt to restore order tonight but to no avail. What happened tonight is simply unacceptable. These kind of incidents really reflect the lack of control at games. As I said , its mass mayhem in the East Coast Hockey League.
Hockey is a tough, physical sport, as it should be, but the lack of respect and sportsmanship displayed by some teams in this league is pathetic. I think it should be up to the coaches to not tolerate this kind of behavior from thier players. Unfortunately it is often the coaches which encourage it.
Jay... Go Pilots!

<<<Tonight in Birmingham , in a game plagued by bad calls / lack of calls and cheap shots , there was a total loss of control on & off the ice !!!>>>
Bad calls???? I think not. That was one of the best displays of officiating we have seen all year!!!!!!! Paul Mariconda NEVER lost control of that game.
<<<< The officials are skating around in circles, both teams are gathered at the hall watching this fight ,for 3 or 4 minutes and the game is delayed for another five minutes at least.>>>>
WRONG WRONG WRONG!!! Get your facts straight. The officials did not skate around. If you noticed, referee Paul Mariconda stood in front of the door to keep the players from going into the hall. He was afraid that there would be a bench clearing. One linesman stood by the Bulls and the other by the Checkers......just to be safe. The game was NOT delayed very long AT ALL....2 minutes tops.
<<< The officials made a weak attempt to restore order tonight but to no avail.>>>
So, I guess the few penalties that were called after the incident reflect that order was never restored, right??
<<< What happened tonight is simply unacceptable. These kind of incidents really reflect the lack of control at games. As I said , its mass mayhem in the East Coast Hockey League.>>>>
It doesnt reflect the lack of control of games, but a lack of maturity and control on the players part.......not the officials. You can blame the referees all you want to, but there is no ground for you to stand on.
And before you post again, I suggest that you get the real story and the facts. You make it sound like the game was a complete slugfest. Maybe in the hallway to the lockerrooms, but not really that much on the ice.
In the first place, to get off the ice the door has to be opened from the outside of the ice. Did your beloved Paul really need to be hall monitor? In the second place , skating in circles is a figure of speech, I didn"t mean to confuse you . One thing is true, the players do need to learn how to control themselves. I guess beloved Paul was to busy worrying about kids running in the hallway to call the hit on Belanger after he scored the last goal. Thanks for your comment, it really made my day.
Did you have blinders on at the game?.... or are you Paul Mariconda's main squeeze? He did not have "Control" of the game as you put it... Go all the way back to the first period, or were you at the hotdog stand? The sticking and jawing started then and the calls simply weren't made then and that led to the mayhem "A39" spoke of.... If a ref calls a clean game from the start, he can keep order on the ice... If he lets the tension build and build... He's looking for trouble... That's what happened to Mr. Mariconda (I found out his name after my post, which you corrected BTW) Ref's have good nights and bad nights... Paul had a not so good one Sunday night..... Just my $0.02 worth!

Gulash involved in a nasty fight? I'm shocked.... (gee, I hope that didn't sound too sarcastic)...actually, though, I thought he would have calmed down after he took a cheap shot at the Brass' team captain last weekend, and our team lined up. It sounded like they took numbers, and waited their turn to pound on him....
I hope he's not too seriously injured though. He definitely does make the contests here in New Orleans that much more exciting, and they're gonna be here Friday nite.
As far as the off ice incident...there was a similar one in New Orleans earlier in the season, but I don't recall who was involved. Basically, our guy was sent off, and as he headed to the locker room, the other team's player jumped him from behind (reportedly)..as they scrapped in the hallway, another player came out of the other team's locker room and joined in. A vendor at a nearby concession stand tried to break it up while security was called.

ECHL Gal and Poff need to get a clue. The officiating in the ECHL sucks.
I could not believe that there was not a call after the Belanger goal. That was just one of many missed calls that night. As biased and slack as the league officials are, I doubt that there will be any action against the Charlotte player that tried to smack Gulash in the head with his stick.

Well, if we're gonna play that game, then we need to blame the most repsonsible people....the fans. If you say the coaches encourage this, it's only because that's what puts butts in the seats.

Maybe you have never noticed but every rink I have ever been in has a latch on the inside. The players usually use the end of their sticks to open it since their gloves won't fit. It is on the top of the boards on the door and pushes downward inside the door. ( like the door handles on some Corvettes). Mysticks 1

I still disagree. In Pensacola there has been an average of 6,980 butts in the seats without this kind of crap going on. In Charleston there have been an average of just over 7,000 without that type of team. And Louisianna has an average of over 11,000 at home where they don't do this type of stuff (for some reason they feel that they can get road wins out of Pensacola by resorting to "goon" tactics but havn't played the Pilots like that in LA all season.) In the last few years much of the ECHL's growth has parralleled the leagues attemp to make it a much cleaner league, far removed from the "goon squads" that it used to occupy it. So who's to blame? I still think its the crap coaches and organizations who tolerate and/or encourage it. By the way I don't mean fighting, I'm speaking of the cheap shots with sticks and fists, chickenshit players jumping other players from behind, fighting in the tunnels etc. etc. etc...
Kris... Where in section 3?... We are the big group three rows off the glass. I agree with you about the Belanger hit... That was definately a cheap shot.... Angie said I should put it in my post... Which got no response :-( Her's got all the action... Come down and say hello at the next home game... I'm the big guy with the goatee on row "C"
At the BJCC the doors all open from off the ice... They have a latch that slides across from the outside on all the doors.... The player entrances kept coming open on checks....
Speaking of cheap shots, has anyone heard about the Baton Rouge player than took a cheap shot on the knee of N.O. brass star Jeff Lazaro? Lazaro was on a breakaway, and was very close to getting off a shot when the Kingfish player slashed him right above the knee, causing Lazaro to miss the rest of the game, and possibly miss the game this Friday night, although it is reported that Lazaro is fine now with only minor pain in his knee. The Brass have submitted this play to the ECHL for review as it is was an obvious intentional attempt to hurt Lazaro. What a poor way to play!!!!!!

You are banned from being a Pilots fan. Lack of knowledge is the reason. Just look at the ECHL penalty statistics. The Gators take more major, 10 minute, and game misconducts than anyone. They have the league leader in penalty minutes, and average more minutes per game than any other ECHL team.

Knowledge? Oh, my mistake. You are the hockey knowledge god. I guess I'll just use penalty minute stats to judge a team instead of my own eyes and ears. You should be banned from being a hockey fan until you grow up and stop using "goon newsgroup" tactics and insulting everyone who has a different opinion than you. You make me ashamed to be a Pilots fan because others here may think I share many of your assenine opinions. Oh, and I bet that was you fighting in the stands behind sect. 109 a couple weeks back.
Poff, Get over the Goon thing! In last nights game, there where only six (6) 2 minute penalties. No Majors, No Fighting, against the Gators. Maybe on the 24th when they play ya'll you will see for yourself.

You must have mised the forst part of the message. You are no loner considered a Pilots fan.
If the Ice Goons are such a group of pacifists, what were all those 5 minute, 10 minute, and game Misconduct penalties called for?
(Sound of clock ticking)
hint: They lead the league in these categories
(jeopardy theme playing)
Maybe you are right. Maybe EVERY oficial picks on them in ALMOST (for chele1032) every game. Maybe.
This is not MY opinion. It is the opinion of the Referees. i don't hand out penalty minutes. They do.

I think that both you should go back and look how ridiculous your previous posts have been. What difference should it make to 2 Icepilots fans if Louisiana leads the team in penalty minutes?? That has nothing to do with who wins the division or the cup for that matter. Since as of today, Pensacola leads Louisiana by only 1 point in the standings, it seems you should put all this energy into commenting on your teams performance and cheering them on to a division title instead of bickering amongst yourselves.
