Okay, Washington is a 3.5 *favorite* for the Carolina game (though
it's at home, too).

Late polls show Obama is driving toward a win in Ohio, the key state
for Republicans to win. And, since 1940, with the exception of 2000
(an interesting event for football when you look into it, too), when
Washington wins its last game before an election, the incumbent does.

Then, there's Mike Shanahan's friend Adam Schefter's take on his
future here, and the team's then, 10 years out no less:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/wp/2012/11/01/schefter-says-redskins-best-positioned-in-the-nfc-east/

And, of course, that article begins this way, though, too:

"The crazy, zig-zag, absurd nature of the modern NFL — combined with
Washington’s upcoming bye week — has created an interesting dynamic to
Sunday’s Skins-Panthers game. Win, and people will spend two weeks
wondering whether 4-5 Washington can mount a late-season playoff push.
Lose, and people will spend two weeks wondering whether 3-6 Washington
needs to win a certain number of games to save Mike Shanahan’s
job....."

my prediction:

We'll win, but it will be close until at least the two-minute warning.
