Wow - what an interesting case. The paper today says Shanahan will have
complete authority of all players concerns.
From the way it sounded to me that means which ones come in and which
ones go.
So what is Allens role, really??
To me that is another Redskin debacle.
Maybe they sign a "marriage" counselor too.

Could be Allen will be the financial guy & Shanahan the football guy.
Although, if you go back & look IIRC, neither he nor Holmgren was any
great shakes as a personnel acquirer.

As Wilbon stated today in an interview on ESPN radio, A foul tip.
Shanahan has more issues than we have. Right now the Redskins have RB
that is at odds with the QB. Also look at the past five Head Coaches
that Snyder has brought in. Not one has produced much with this team.

Beisdes Allen is a great capologist. His primary role will be to get
the team in decent cap situation should a CBA be finalized. Shanahan
when he got the same control over Denver really made some bad draft
picks. The jury is still out on his ability to evaluate and draft
palyers.

This is not an instant fix to the Redskins problems.

gb: Didn't Shanahan win 2 super bowls at Denver??? As I recall the
Redskins did not exactly dominate the Bucs in the past.

There is no doubt that Allen is there as a financial guy. Right now
Snyder is doing everything he can to make Washington a winner. The one
thing he has failed to do is get out of the kitchen and leave the
football operations to people that know a heck of lot more than he
does.

Maybe this is a sign that he might have got the message. Though I
seriously doubt it. Once a meddler, always a meddler.

yes he won two SB with Elway at QB and when he was just the HC and had
a good GM.

His last years in Denver were rocky ones. Once he gained control of
personnel decisisons, some feel he made some bad player choices infree
agency and the draft that may have been a major contributor to his
departure from Denver.

Listen here, because a coach wins a superbowl with one team does not
mean he will do it with another team. I can point out several coaches
that were great with one team and failures with the next team.
Holmgrin won a SB with Green Bay but never came close in Seattle. Joe
Gibbs second stint with Washington was an utter dissaster. Jimmy
Johnson won in Dallas and ran out of Miami. Lombardi won 2 SB in Green
Bay and did nothing in Washington.

The converse can be said also. Belliceck (SP?) was a dissaster in
Cleveland but is considered a great coach in New England. Dick Vermeil
at Philly was an okay coach, but did not win his SB until he later
returned to coaching with the Rams. Then went to Kansas City and was
never that good there.

There is no guaranttee that Shanahan will do well there at Wahsington.
Look at the list of Redskin coaches under the Snyder era and while you
have some great names, you also have some rather poor results.

Past performance is no indication of future performance.

He only won one SB
(courtesy Dungy, :-) }
And never even a playoff game since and left a ramshackle team and
situation.
AND "no" I would not want a college coach to try to run this team.
Really thats about where we were at the beginning of this season. Yes
Morris and Co. ought to do better, BUT so will some other teams.
2010 - Bucs will have 4 wins.

May I suggest that a college coach can also come in a be a very good
NFL coach. I present as my case Jimmy Johnson. While his first year
was a dissaster at 1-15, trades and draft picks were parlayed into two
Super Bowls. I am not comparing Morris to Johnson. Just using him as
an example of one coach moving up in level and having success. There
can be equally if not far more that have not doen well. I can point
out Davies for Notre Dame. Never coached in college but was a
successful high school coach. His tenure at Notre Dame is well
documented. Pete Carrol was a lousy coach in the NFL but has found
good success at USC. Lou Sabin was the coach at Univ. of Miami before
Schnellenberger and was the coach that started QB U. Sabin recruited
Jim Kelly and not Howard.

As I have pointed out there is no hard rule that this coach will be
better than that coach. Even track record has mixed reviews. A winner
at one level does not mean he will be a winner at the next level. All
coaches build on successes adn failure of previous coaches or they
don't last long in the NFL.

I have pointed out in detail so many times about our Super Bowl win
and both Gruden's role and Dungy's role in it. You are so blinded by
your own bias that discussing it in any detail now is like pissing
into a fan. Not wise and definitely not worth it. I will allow you to
waddle in your delirium for all of eternity if it really makes you
happy.

have a great life

gb: Just a minute there - YOU were a guy that said Gruden was lucky to
win that SB.
And further your stats in a game like football are not established
conditions.
How about your remark " Past performancs does not guarantee future
results. You kinda contradict your self.
ALSO note Dungy left a team in Indy that is rated a heck of a lot higher
than the one Gruden left at the Bucs.

just won a state title.

But there are far more failures jumping directly from college to pro
ball.

From...http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos251.htm
(US Bureau of Labor Statistics

Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2010-11 Edition
Athletes, Coaches, Umpires, and Related Workers

"Many coaches begin their careers as assistant coaches to gain the
knowledge and experience needed to become a head coach. Head coaches
at large schools and colleges that strive to compete at the highest
levels of a sport require substantial experience as a head coach at
another school or as an assistant coach. To reach the ranks of
professional coaching, a person usually needs years of coaching
experience and a winning record in the lower ranks or experience as an
athlete in that sport."
=============================

Number two factor is one of the most important and difficult tasks is
assembling a competent staff (See Raheem Morris). The NFL is a "good
ol' boy" network. After working together for *years* they come to be
familiar with workers in the field and that experience is priceless in
selecting a proper staff; One that has assistants whose style of play
is congruent with the head coach. Conflict in this aspect spells
disaster (See Raheem Morris).

>ALSO note Dungy left a team in Indy that is rated a heck of a lot higher
>than the one Gruden left at the Bucs.

As a coach Dungy has never built a team from the ground up. He was
given two teams that already had several future HOF'rs in place.

The worst thing about Dungy is that he could not win a SB with the
team he had in Tampa. It took Gruden to win with the team Dungy could
not.

Number two - Having seen the disaster of an offense Dungy had in
Tampa, he was directed NOT to meddle with the offense in Indy. If he
had they would have had a players riot.

Now I'll hand it to him. Dungy as a HC makes a great preacher.

Right. And carpenters, lawyers, engineers, chemists need no training
or experience. All they need is "faith" that they can get the job
done.

He did not have to. manning is the OC and Moore was the coach. Only a
dummy would have screwed that up and at least Dungy was not that
stupid. Then for GB? Well at times I have seen a pet rock have more
intelligence.

No butthead. I said that we were lucky to draw Oakland for the
Superbowl. Had we played any other AFC team we could have easily lost
the game or won by a smaller margin. Callahan did little to change
Gruden's offense the year after he left and our defense basically only
had to prepare playing agianst our own offense as a scout team. Much
of what Oakland did was similar enough towhat Gruden did the year
before at Oakland.

It so easy a caveman can do it.

I am not fanatic. Just I enjoy the game and have an expectation of
just being entertained. If the entertainment is not worth the time and
money, I can easily go elsewhere and spend the time and money. One may
call me a bandwagon fan, I reallly don't care. I don't eat and sleep
Buc football. There is more to life than the NFL.
