One year ago today...are you more less excited about the Bucs going into the off-season than you are today? (coaching change was not
made until Jan. 17th)

striking the draft pick bonanza

I was more hopeful about this season until the firings came. New
coaching staf often means adjustments and new players. There is a
learning curve, both for the players and coaches.

OK just curious...

Besides (at the time) having the jerry springer of head coaches...
...You were more hopeful coming off *4 straight losses* (had any one of which been a win it would have put the Bucs in the
playoffs), losing its long time defensive coordinator/ mentor,
growing animosity and NO real quarterback...

rather than now...when we have a very young team with lots of raw youthful talent both on the field and on the sideline...as well as
the best quarterback prospect the Bucs have ever encountered (based on performance not hype)...?

I have to agree with others that have compared this team to the 96 "turn-around" team...Even if the Bucs don't make the playoffs
next year...if they continue to show improvement (at quarterback especially)....they will be back in the post season post
haste...and when that happens everyone will look back to this (really next) year...

Yes I was even with Gruden as head coach. Despite four straight
losses, Gruden would have not gone with a rookie QB or even a second
year QB. Instead he and Allen would have persued a better QB in free
agency than did Dominik. At least with Gruden still at the helm we
sure as heck would not have had an OC fired a week before the start of
the season. Ialso think that a better DC would have been chosen.

Yes with the departure of Allen and Gruden and a lot of older
verterans, the Bucs are younger. I think they do finally have a young
QB that may very well develope into a good to maybe a great QB. The
jury is still out on him.

I still think we are far behind the 96 rebuild year. I do hope we
draft better than the 95 and 96 drafts. Of the four first round picks
we had those two years, two were pretty good, Sapp and Brooks. Upshaw
and Jones were maybe not well worth their picks. At least Jones played
7 years for the Bucs. Upshaw was a dissaster. Well I guess one out
three fat dudes is decent is some books. Over the past 15 yrs one out
of six is not all that good either. That one fell to us because of
alledge pot usage that scared other teams from drafting him. I guess
the odds may be with us if we draft DL with the first pick. Heck even
the blind dog finds a bone once in a while.

I still hold to the philosphy that you have to score more points than
your opponent in order to win a game. Right now for next year, I am
not all that certain who is going todo a lot of the scoring? Right now
if you were to ask me what I think next season will bring, it is much
of the same this year. We paly Cleveland, Pittsburg, Seattle, San
Francisco, and Detroit at home. Baltimore, Cinicy, Arizona, St Louis
and Washington on the road. Of those ten games, at best I see us
wining three. Cleveland, Detroit, and maybe St Louis. With in our
division, maybe another one or two. Four or five games maybe six if we
get lucky next year.

I do hope that the draft and free agency will change my opinion. Right
now next year looks as bleak as this year. We have at least another
two years before we can even think of playoffs.

there again you have *yet another* QB under gruden to learn a complicated system from scratch... (not too promising IMO)

One of the most promising things about Freeman is (at this early stage of his career (6 starts?) he IS able to score points....for a
while there I thought the only Bucs that scored points were kickers or defensive players...and often the kickers missed...

one last reminder... going into last year the entire defense was up in the air with Monte bailing out...

Just because you have youth and raw talent doesn't make you a
contender. Look at the Bucs, circa 1985-1995.

I'm willing to give "The Nightmare" another year, but if he continues
his ping-ponging kid-in-a-candy store style, we may look back at this
3 win season fondly. I think Raheem is in way over his head, and he
needed at least 3-4 years of seasoning as a defensive coordinator
before being handed the keys to the kingdom.

One thing is sure: if they keep Raheem, the Bucs will have a *very*
tough time keeping season ticket holders next year. In a loose poll
of folks among my section (about 20 people), about 40% said if Raheem
was retained they would drop their tix. Of the remaining 60%, about
80% said they would drop theirs if the Glazers raised the prices by
even $.01. So if they retain Morris and raise prices, they're gonna
lose about 85% of my area, which has folks who have had tickets over
12 years, for the most part.

Raise the white flags!
2009 Bucs season officially a disaster and
"The Nightmare" continues.

I find it interesting that a lot more wasn't made of the fact that
Morris has *never* been a HC of even a college team. I can't even find
where he's been a coordinator at the college level. We know he was a
coordinator at the NFL level for about two weeks (MOL). And
here he's the HC of an *NFL* team. I bet there are a lot of
coordinators, (defensive and offensive), who were seething when
he got the job. There were two or three games that *might* have been
won by someone more familiar with the game-time duties
of a HC.

Start making new friends. My guess is that Morris stays and ticket
prices go up(but not much). No CBA (and 10 draft picks) means the
Glazers will be forced to spend more. A new HC will cost a *lot* more
(plus paying Morris' salary).

An exciting draft and a name brand free agent or two and the owners won't have any trouble filling those seats with fresh meat...!

True, but a big-name head coach signing will generate 10-20K new
season tickets. That means 10-20K more seat licenses, in addition, so
the math doesn't necessarily tilt to keeping Morris. Figuring and
average of $100/ticket * 10 games: 10K * $1K/year * 2 = $20 million.

Add to that the fact that they've lost club seat ticket holders at an
alarming rate, and it's those tickets that pay the freight the most,
as they aren't subject to any revenue sharing...

I see your point, but if the Bucs land a 'fan favorite' FA and/or draft
pick(s), most seat holders will play 'wait-and-see' for one more year.
Another potential appeasement could be a popular defensive coordinator
and/or QB coach. IOW, there is more than one way the Glazers can 'win'.
Let's see if they figure it out.
