I remember that Montana-to-Rice TD pass very well. They were playing at the
Meadowlands in 1988, their first game against the Giants since the 49-3
playoff debacle in Jan. 1987. With just over a minute left the Giants
scored
a touchdown to go up 17-13, they needed a TD. Ran back the kickoff to the
22, then two incompletions before this play on 3d down. What I remember
as much as the play itself was the deathly silence in the stadium when a
sure Giants win turned to defeat at the hands of two of the greatest players
ever. You never heard 70,000 New Yorkers shut up so fast.
