I remember that Montana-to-Rice TD pass very well. They were playing at the
Meadowlands in 1988, their first game against the Giants since the 49-3
playoff debacle in Jan. 1987. With just over a minute left the Giants
scored
a touchdown to go up 17-13, they needed a TD. Ran back the kickoff to the
22, then two incompletions before this play on 3d down. What I remember
as much as the play itself was the deathly silence in the stadium when a
sure Giants win turned to defeat at the hands of two of the greatest players
ever. You never heard 70,000 New Yorkers shut up so fast.

after that. Other coworkers privy to having the number asked me about the
combination 1680 and I just said remember Montana to Rice. In the mid-90's
the combinations became 0880. Might have to go get one of those re-settable
combo locks to put on my shed with a combo of 1185 or even 2146 (Gore for
six).
