I think they were scaling back the complexity and reduce the number of
options and the calls at the LoS. One intent was to reduce the
chances of crowd noise impact and delays of game. They were looking
at a stretch of tough road games coming up so it makes sense.
I don't think this change would impact the number of deep routes and
throws.
Norv knows this team doesn't execute 10+ play drives with any
consistency. They need 20+ chunks to get down the field before
shooting themselves in the foot with a sack, a penalty, a fumble, or a
pick.
