Malcom Floyd signs 3-year extension

Malcom Floyd has been catching passes from quarterback Philip Rivers
since 2004.
That arrangement is set to continue.
The Chargers wide receiver signed a three-year contract extension
Wednesday, putting him under team control through 2015. His original
two-year contract was set to expire after the season.
Floyd, 31, first came to the Chargers as an undrafted rookie from Wyoming.
A contract extension has been discussed between the sides since before
the season, his agent Buddy Baker said.
"It's not very often where a player gets to play for over 10 years in
one place," Baker said. "Malcom loves San Diego. He loves the Chargers.
He wanted to continue his career there."
Floyd is a proven, productive receiver when healthy, and he's healthy
now. In the first three games, he leads the team with 13 catches and 227
yards, adding a touchdown.
He led the NFL with 19.9 yards per reception in 2011. He missed nine
games the past two years but was on pace to surpass the 1,000-yard
receiving mark in both.
Rivers and tight end Antonio Gates also have contracts that run through
2015. The financial terms of Floyd's extension were not immediately
disclosed.
The signing gives the Chargers added long-term security at the position.
Robert Meachem's contract runs through 2015, and Eddie Royal and Vincent
Brown are both up after the 2014 season.
