Continuing the rebuilding process, the Eagles have traded CB Sheldon Brown
and LB Chris Gocong to Cleveland for LB Alex Hall along with a fourth-round
pick (105th overall) and a fifth-round pick (137th overall) in the 2010 NFL
Draft.

Jeffrey Lurie earned an additional $3,462,720 with this trade because Brown
was scheduled to earn $2,756,720 and Gocong was scheduled to earn $1,176,000
while Hall's contract is for $470,000 this season. So far this offseason,
the Eagles have saved almost $29M by dumping players with high salaries and
acquiring players with substantially lower contracts.

The Eagles have released, traded or terminated 14 players from the 2009
roster and have added 5 players excluding training camp bodies. Therefore,
there are 9 open roster spots open, at this time.

The Eagles now have 10 picks in the 2010 draft:
1 (24)
2 (55)
3 (70)
3 (87)
4 (105)
4 (121)
5 (137)
6 (200)
7 (243)
7 (244)

Rebuilding process? Dammit, Adam, this is a blatant money move, pure and
simple. Keeping Brown, especially in an UNCAPPED year would have been
pretty prudent. The D is pathetic. Do you, or anyone else believe that all
pro corners grow on trees? Hell, couldn't he have given -- if not
stability-- then guidance, to newcomers? Money move, pure and simple. Gold
standard? Oh, yes. The Eagles are gonna have more of it than anybody in
2010. I detest Banner, Lurie, and their protégé, Howie. I couldn't be more
disgusted with them.

Best,
Lou

S Sean Jones UFA $2,335,000
TE Alex Smith UFA $850,000
LB Jeremiah Trotter UFA $845,000
LB Tracy White UFA $850,000

Lou -

It's all a misunderstanding, this "gold standard" thing.

What Jeffy and Joey were saying is that the Eagles were the "GELT
standard" in the NFL - which, if you knew a little yiddish, would
explain perfectly nearly every move they've made in 15 years of
running the Iggs.

For those of you who are not Jewish - or did not go to Penn - "gelt"
is yiddish for money (derived from the Old German and Dutch word
"geld"). "Gelt" is also used colloquially to refer to annual gifts of
small coins to children.

See? It all makes perfect sense now. Joey and Jeffy would never lie
to us....

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

The Eagles are taking advantage of no cap and showing their real
colors. They don't care about winning they only care about the bottom
line and they are dumping as much salary as they possibly can.

I might spend some time outside the Linc this year at the end of games
just so I can laugh at all the idiots that support this team as they
come out.

I am impressed that you noticed, especially since you are not an Eagles fan.
The Eagles have already dumped over $44M in player costs for 2010 and they
will probably dump a lot more in the next 3 weeks. The organization is
going to find it difficult to convince their fans that they are legitimately
competitive this season.

There are at least 6 openings on the starting lineup compared with 2009, and
none of the replacement players is a legitimate starting candidate. Based
on their resumes, most of the offseason acquisitions will be fortunate to
make the final 53 roster. At best they could get 2 starters from the draft
but 1 is more realistic.

How are they going to fill the other 5 openings in the starting lineup? Are
they going to annoint 5 starters from 2009 reserves that proved why they are
reserves? Only Cornelius Ingram has showed any indication of any upside
amongst those reserves. Do the Eagles expect Andy Reid to rally the troops,
cause his team to overachieve significantly, and finish 8-8?

I am a fan of the NFL.

I was an Eagles fan, and I will be once again as soon as they get rid
of Fat A(ss)ndy.

Until then I will hope they lose every game.
