Oakland Raiders sign free agent center Colin Miller

Center Colin Miller signed a free agent contract with the Raiders
Tuesday, providing depth a position where they are thin behind projected
starter Stefen Wisniewski.
Miller, 6-foot-3, 300 pounds, was with the Pittsburgh Steelers last year
in training camp. He was signed by the Steelers as an undrafted free
agent out of Central Michigan.
The Raiders also continued to restructure their personnel department as
general manager Reggie McKenzie announced that veteran scouts George
Karras, Kent McCloughan, Bruce Kebric and Jon Kingdon would not return
in 2012.
The departures of Kingdon and Kebric were reported by the Bay Area News
Group on April 30. Both were relieved of their duties, according to the
club. Karras and McCloughan will retire.
The Raiders have yet to make official the hirings of former Green Bay
Packers scout Shaun Herock and Raleigh McKenzie, the twin brother of
Reggie, to the scouting staff.
"This was a very difficult decision because these individuals have been
part of this organization for all or parts of four decades," Reggie
McKenzie said in a statement. "We're grateful for their dedicated service."
McCloughan, Kebric and Kingdon combined for more than 104 years of
service in the Raiders' personnel department.
Karras also is a longtime veteran of the scouting department, but in
some years it has been on a consulting basis and he hasn't always been
listed in the Raiders' media guide or on their administration roster on
the club's Web site.
McCloughan, 72, said in a statement he was talked out of retiring by Al
Davis when he turned 65.
"He said, 'Listen, young man, you're not quitting before I do,'"
McCloughan said. "I owe him a lot. He was so nice to my family and me .
. . You couldn't have written a better story for me."
The Raiders expect to announce their restructuring of their scouting
department later this month, according to the release. McKenzie has
already updgraded the department in terms of technology and equipment.
