Too bad for the NY Jets. I guess we will find out if any of our CBs can
stop Welker. Whichever team beats the other twice, has an excellent shot
at the SB. If they split, both are beatable and will likely watch the SB
from home.

welker is no worry now, so long as revis, cromartie and wilson stay
healthey.... not to mention lets see if revis shows up at cortland
today by 5:30. the jets now have the manpower to put a quality cover
cb on slot guys AND still have two more cover cb's out on the
corners. the jets are going to be nearly impossible to score on

the Colts playoff game is why Wilson was drafted.

cb's can help right away lots of the time. with more and more college
programs emulating pro style teams, you'll see more and more rookie
guy's coming in right away and helping out. you see that a lot now
too with rookie qb's. the college ranks have changed a lot since the
70's and 80's. the big "football factories" might as well be called
professional athletics.

we dont know welker's ability now after his injury any more that we
know about wilson... but yeah... i agree... a newly minted nfl cb will
have growing pains even if he's a good one

Of course we do. The number of rookie CBs drafted in the first round
who become top tier CBs is much smaller than the number of receivers who
sustain ACL injuries, recover to game shape in a few months, and are
still hampered by the injury. Sure, it's possible Welker never regains
form, but it's FAR more possible that a guy selected in the bottom of
the first round of the draft becomes a bust.

Several different beat writers have expressed shock at how well he's
doing. Yesterday, one called him "superhuman". He's doing everything
he used to do, cuts-wise, and this is about 5 months ahead of where
people were projecting his return. There's still 5 weeks before the
season starts.

One thing that we often lose sight of when it comes to this stuff is
that every injury is different and everyone's body is different. Just
like you can have a bad break, you can also have bad tears. My guess is
that Welker's injury wasn't as serious as some other ACL/MCL guys, and
I'm sure his young-ish body and work ethic helped. The other receiver
with the Pats who had an ACL (Brandon Tate...actually an ACL in both
legs) has also been at full speed and is actually starting opposite Moss
instead of Holt or Edelman. These are injuries that players come back
from. I'd be much more concerned with chronic back or hip. The problem
comes when they sustain one at 35 years old.

i had been watching the tate thing since he got injured in college.
obviously he would have been a first rounder. may be even the highest
rated wr in the draft. if he fully recovers, pats cash of wr's is
gonna be scary. also... lots of people last year were saying that
brady looked to be on the way down. i think the opposite. he should
be back in better form this year. afc east gonna be a battle between
jets defense and pats run and shoot. fish and bills an afterthought

You know my opinion about the Dolphins. The Bills, however, suck. And
the fan base should be pissed because they also didn't spend as much as
the other three teams either. I think they were $20M low.

the bills had a real chance to improve tremendously by hiring brian
billic... the talk was that he was putting together a staff in
anticipation of being offered a job, but the bills ownership did not
want to pay him. instead they got another lame hc to follow their old
lame hc

They should all be praying for Wilson's demise to avoid the estate tax
or they will be driving to Toronto.

Some guys seem to have much harder times and bigger issues with healing.
Light years ago I tore my knee up....I missed half of a season with minimal
rehab and it never bothered me again. I was told I have very loose joints
and that is a plus, they give rather than break. I think all of my injuries
healed rather quickly, including six years ago when I had two organ
transplants....I was back driving and doing things two months later. Of
course, I did slow down a whole bunch.
