I was wondering if there are viable ways to record and watch Jet games
this upcoming season for out of towners (e.g. Vermont) other than Direct
TV.

With so many nationally televised games, the DirecTV package seems very
over priced.

It looks like NFL.com's options are only for those outside of the
States.

I need an option that I can record because of family obligations and
because I might want to shift away from DirecTV as a cable provider.

Thoughts? Experiences?

TIA,

Harlan

What's wrong with ten yard torrents?

if you have any friends or relatives in the nyc/ny metro area that
will allow you to set up a sling box there, you can watch the games
real time on a desk top computer at your place in vt provided you
have internet access. you can also watch it any where you travel if
you have a laptop and access to the internet. one of my friends
travels a lot for business and is away a lot during football season.
he has a sling box set up at his house so he can watch jet games on
his lap top no matter where he is

Usually have all the games up within a day or so. You need broadband
and the right software (uTorrent, for example). To play it on your
computer is easy. On your tv, it becomes an issue of burning it to a
DVD using software like ConvertXtoDVD.

I read that there's a new version of uTorrent for mac. There's also
Deluge, which is quite good.

Or hooking yout TV up your PC as a second monitor. Easier than burning a
DVD for sure

For live games myP2P.eu and atdhe.net and channelsurfing.net are still the
best bet. As I posted earlier, hook up your TV to your 'puter as a second
monitor and you can watch on your TV.

Most guys stream over web based platforms at about 300/400kbps which is
acceptable to watch and which makes mac/pc issues pretty much go away.

Call DTV and tell them the price hike is out of line and that you want
to cancel Sunday Ticket. Lasat year they reduced it from $45/month
for 6 months to $25/month for 6 months with complimentary
"Superfan" (which only fantasy addicts would want anyway). The whole
thing came to $150 for the year. This year they are coming at us with
$319. I am telling them to give me last year's price or I am done.
You may need to try multiple operators until yu get one who will
acquiesce. The key is to get forwarded to the retention team who are
empowered to give you more than the ordinary operators. Last year
about 30 odf us got the same deal because it was posted on Jets
message boards such as JI. Just be polite, firm and persistent and
you will get the ST for under $200. Good luck.

For Example (posted today):

"I always use this time of year to get a deal - lots of good advice
here - this is what works for me

1. state "cancel DTV" when prompted - key cause you go to customer
retention instead of customer service. Much better to make deals

2. Used my wife and cable as the bad guys - "my wife thinks cable is a
better deal"

3. Use NFL pkg as a key for why you want to stay

4. Dont settle for just a Ticket credit - also get some other freebies
- always "thats nice but a little more credit would help me out" - if
you get a dead fish rep (happens but rare) just hang up or end the
call and try again - different rep makes all the difference

Also - there is a deal in place where if you switch to auto payments
you get free HDTV for 2 years - $240 savings

So I got the $240 for HD credit, Ticket down to $150, Free HBO for 3
months (to catch the Jets) $45 credit; and free Hd NEt channels for 6
months $50 credit - overall I saved almost $500 in a 10 minute call -
I think the leverage is now before the masses start calling close to
the season. Plus the HD deal is now too - good luck! "

In the past you had to get superfan to get the games in HD. This year
they eliminated the SF package and want $319 for the Ticket. HD, Red
Zone channel and the game shorts on Monday or Tuesday are included.

Mostly a lurker here but... the 2010 price for a new subscriber is
$315. Renewal is $300. I called and asked to cancel based on the price
and they discounted it to $180.

ok. did my annual haggling w/DirecTV for NFL Sunday Ticket. DirecTV's
list price for Sunday Ticket ("ST") is $300 (6 months x $49.99). This
year there is no "Superfan" HD add-on price of $100. THat's all now
included (as it should have been all along --- I always used to
negotiate that "Superfan" would be bundled in at no charge). However
if you want to add the ST "To Go" (which puts ST on your SmartPhone -
perfect for season ticket holders like me for watching early games
while tailgating or watching late games after a home 1pm game...
especially for fantasy football nerds) it's another $50.

Here is what I got:

ST for $29.99 per month ($20 credit per month for 6 months - saves
$120)
ST To-Go bundled in at no charge (saves $50)
HD service free for 12 months (saves $10/month or $120)

I read where someone got free HD for 24 months instead of 12. No
worries... I'll ask for 12 months free HD one year from now when I
haggle with them again.

When you dial in, don't bother dealing with the front line reps...
just say "cancel service" at the voice prompt and you go immediately
to the Retention Team who are empowered to do this for you. The front
line is not.

The first person I got was a woman who defintiely had attitude and
seemed like she woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Cranky. Maybe
her husband didn't finish her off or something, but I thought best not
to work with her. After a minute with her, I disconnected and called
back about half-hour later. Then I got a delightful rep who was easy
to work with. In addition to working out my deal, we talked about
football, his Raiders (he was a 40 year Raiders fan who now lives in
Idaho), JaMarcus Russel, Al Davis. Very pleasant experience.

Good luck. Just be pleasant, respectful and polite. It surely helped
that I have been a DTV customer for 15 years.

Also... if you don't have DTV yet... they have a freaking astounding
offer for new customers... which includes ST and free HD for life at
an amazing price... far better than anything we current customers can
get. If you are thinking of switching from shitty cable to DTV...
grab the "premier" offer for $66.99/ month ($59.99 + $7 DVR service w/
free installation, etc): http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/new_customer/base_packages.jsp?footernavtype=-1#lb&_h

David, It has taken this long for me to get my bill, get upset, and do
something. Your thoughtfulness for the post above is much appreciated.

For those who care, I got the same $20 off per month on the Sunday
Ticket, and by going to autopay, I got the free HD ($10 off) too. David,
that saved me $240. Money I don't have to spend this year.

I have a smartphone but opted not to drive everyone around me nuts
watching a game. That is why they have DVRs. So, I might have gotten the
ST to Go but did not push.

Love to all,

Jets the first team to go 19-0 and a SB.
