he died last nite from a brain hemorage.
he was a 1st rate QB and he endeared himself to America by calling out
Cosell on his bullshit.
When Lennon was murdered Cosell was against mentioning such a trivial thing
on the air during a game.
Meredith insisted it was big news and had to be mentioned, after a few
minutes arguing Meredith carried the argument and Cosell read the
announcement.
it became the biggest story Cosell ever broke and he ever after took full
"credit" for thr the story.
a leaked tape of the off-air debate in the booth showed it was Dandy Don and
Frank Gifford who wanted it mentioned.

RIP dandy Don.

Turn out the lights, the party's over.

Always entertaining, seldom perspicacious, beloved by millions. 21st
Century networks could use more announcers like him.

"Perspicacious". So does that mean you are or are not in favor of
bringing back Dennis Miller to Monday Night Football?

Adios Don. I won't hold the fact that you were a Dallas Cowboy against
you.

Unlike many I loved Cosell, and Don as well. The guy I could ever stand was
Gifford. He was often lost on what was happening, and was a shill for the
network.

why is it when commedians come out as Republicans any hint of humour deserts
them?
Miller, P.J.O'Rourke, Ben Stein, well not Stein he was never funny.
but connedservatives seems to be humouristically challenged.
and the jokes wingnuts post to the usenet would embarrass a 12 year old with
their lamosity.

the Giff was a great player. before the AFL and the Pats existed the Giants
were the "home" team for New England.
the Giff was cool and one of my heros.
yeah he sucked in the booth.

Yes he was the Lance Allworth of his time. Saw him drop a key YA Tittle
pass in a champ game. He hated any of the old AFL teams he had to cover.
That smug NFL attitude was what turned me into a Giant hater.

Announcers today are nothing but corporate shills for the NFL. A
corporate level of correctness oozing in every broadcast. With a few
players and coaches used as examples of punishment and "jounalism"
every once in awhile. Too much money wrapped up in it these days for
announcers such as Dandy Don or the honesty Cosell reported.

Bart Starr verus Don Meredith, now those were games. About like the
Manning-Brady games today for you youngsters.
Meredith and his bombs to Bob Hayes were pretty much alone in their
quick strike ability, in a league still so run centric.

Your grammar and spelling give you away as a borderline moron.
Your never-ending leftwing political ranting only confirms the fact.

Totally wrong Ray. Don wasn't there at all. It was Fran Tarkenton,
Howard, and Giff. I heard the tape today, and Cosell basically questioned
whether to go with it on air once, and then immediately said OK, when they
all agreed it was warranted. Wanna reload your version?
