PS, I predict our chances of winning will correlate inversely to the
percentage of time our safeties are in on second and 7 and third and 6
or longer plays (i.e., statistically obvious passing downs).
I would not play any safeties which would equal a percentage of zero. I
think our safeties, other than Leonhard, remain the main weakness of
this team (i.e., not just the defense). Pool, Smith and even Dig have
done nothing to distinguish themselves all year as positional players.
OTOH, Drew Coleman has shown real growth and it seems to my lying eyes
that Marquise Cole has shown real coverage potential at times. I would
feel much more comfortable with these two trying to cover backs, TEs and
third WR than Pool, POS Smith, or even Dig (who at least makes an
occasional play as a blitzer).
My fear is that Rex' faith in his players (and coaches) who do not
deserve it will force him to play regulars who suck, making Peyton's and
his second and third string receivers' jobs much too easy.

It's instructive some of the best teams have Pro-Bowl safeties:
Pittsburgh (Polamalu), Baltimore (Reed), NE (Merriweather), GB
(Collins). KC's Eric Berry IINM has had a good year and was a 5th-
round pick. I imagine most of the remaining playoff contenders have at
least one good safety.
Safety play can truly make or break a team as safeties have critical
responsibilites. The old baseball adage about being strong up the
middle applies to football too.

I echo your wishes of luck to each and all Jets fans, H. But, as I
see it, even if the Offense gives no offense, the Defensive personnel
and coaching are the real Achilles Heal of the team, especially
against one of the best and brightest QBs of all time. It would truly
be amazing if, in back to back weeks, we beat both Manning and Brady,
but that's what our D will have to do to get us to Vinceland. I
seriously doubt that it will, Rex's mouth notwithstanding.

With what is left of the Jets D they have NO pass rush and can't put any
pressure on a QB...that leaves Rex doing what he has done most of the
season, play a lot of man coverage, and both Manning and Brady will pick man
coverage to pieces. All they need is a good third receiver and adequate
backs out etc and it is a picnic for them. If the Jets attempt to blitz it
will have to be one of the best blitzing shows ever put on and executed
almost entirely by some LB's and DB's...we haven't seen any evidence the D
line people can be effective in a pass rush scheme. I wish it were
different...I will root for them and hope they can somehow shake up Manning
early on, get him rattled and off rhythem early.

not blitz. While Pool and Smith were not great, Pool made some decent
plays on runs and others covered the passes. The D held fine.
Shott called a better game in the second half, except for the brain fart
on 3rd down with less than three minutes in the game.
But, this one was fun.
