i enjoyed it tremendously... near the end, they showed a few of the
players relaxing at a local bar. looked like mangold was hanging out
with slauson... the new starting lg bonding with the center... i bet
the line improves from last year...

Guys having a beer usually have big ideas that never happen....that's my
observation, the bonding comes when they back each other up on the field and
they actually see the other guy get the job done....everything else is pure

"bonding" is only part of becoming farmilliar with a person you work
with. i'd consider that montana would be a good example as far as some
of the relationships he's had with pass catchers. i've heard a few
interviews with him about his relationship with dwight clark. he
credits the uncanny play on the field due in part to how close he was
with him off the field. plenty of other stories like that out there
too.
one guy is not the same as the other... some need relationships and
some wont bare them. that, i think applies to sports and other
occupations as well.

you think they said, OK? I'm serious. Namath did not "bond" with his team
over a beer. He showed them he was the best freakin QB in the game at the
time! I feel like one of the very fortunate to have had the opportunity to
see him not only on the field but in his night club in NYC. I once saw
Sonny Jurgenson come off the field at an Eagles practice in Hershey, PA and
walk over to someone who handed him a beer. Did Sonny get the job done on
the field? I would certainly say so. What I said was where the respect and
"bonding" in the game comes from. A lot of studies have been done in the
area of sports psychology regarding the issues some people have when they
leave the game. The sense of loss felt by players comes from that sense of
a connection that only occurs during the game and in the heat of
competition. They mourn the loss of that connection and being able to count
on and rely on someone in the heat of battle. Bob "The Bullet" Hayes did
not win over his team mates because he was usually drunk...he did it because
he scored touchdowns and was the fastest guy in the game. He even says he
was completely unaware of some of those scores after the game. The "best
defensive player in history" did not get the respect of his team and coaches
because he could get them a good deal of some blow either. He played the
game. And if your boy becomes a good buddy of Mangolds it will be because
he gets the job done on the field. BTW....how many other guys were hanging
out with Mangold? I think one of them got cut at the end of the show, so
how did having a beer with Nick help him? You should get a job on Fox
News...you are great at taking something and just going off on it.

I am with Papa on this, the bonding stuff is overrated. All the
attributes Papa mentioned plus mental toughness when things go well &
more importantly when the wheels fall off the wagon.
I have to wonder how many of the "pundits" played the game? I full well
know a fair amount or even a lot of drinking and other chemical recreation
goes on...but that does not create the bonding that wins games and
championships. The action in the trenches together does that, the winning
together and then the seeing each other cry after a loss does that. So,
let's go out and have a few beers together, really become tight...and then
we can go take over the world :-)

brilliant, really a great offensive mind....the staff agreed and worked hard
for him, but we didn't really hang with him or get close to him...some of us
were close to each other. When I was in charge of programs, getting things
done, making it worked absolutely trumped being friends or buddies in terms
of meeting goals. Out of that came some life long lasting friendships,
because we became friends by "doing it"....that taught us to respect each
other and not the other way around. Again, only my old person experience
:-)
So who is the "communist news" ? And does that mean fair and balanced is
the "democracy news"? Do you mean teach or spin? :-) I am playing with
you. The Hard Knocks thing did scare me about one thing...my experience in
many camps tells me the defense should always be ahead of the offense at
this point. It did not look that way at all.
