"The Laveranues Coles signing, which still hasn't been announced by
the team, is cool gesture on the part of owner Woody Johnson. The team
couldn't fill Jim Leonhard's roster spot with a safety because the
injury happened so late in the week, so they decided to make it a
ceremonial roster spot. Johnson always preaches, "Once you're a Jet,
you're always a Jet." This move, which will cost Johnson about $40,000
(one game check), backs that up.

Coles was left behind coming out of training camp, promised a Week 2
return that never happened. Now, on the eve of the biggest game,
they've made him part of the moment. He's not going to play,
obviously, but from what I hear, he's probably going to be an honorary
captain. Coles always said he wanted to retire a Jet, the team that
drafted him in 2000, and now that can happen. Wouldn't be surprised if
it happens in the coming days. "

Classy move by Woody.

John, he did. But like Chris Baker and Kendall, it did not benefit him
all that much with ringless stints in Cincy and Foreskins to show for it.

I think Coles would have done better had he chosen just to be rich and
stay here.

One of the guttiest little guys ever to wear the green. That said, he was
never the game breaker Santana Moss turned out to be, and I think it cost us
big time way back then.
