nothing to sneez at though.... mangold, revis, keller, harris... all
can be considered to be the best at their respective positions in the
entire league. i think mangini has the right idea building on
character and appears to make good choices in the draft. when he was
with the jets he was over his head as far as being an in game coach.
i cant say how much he has learned between then and now... i dont
expect the browns will win sunday.

How do we know that Mangini was responsible for those picks? Not
Tannenbaum and the scouts? Has it ever been revealed how much of a role
Mangini played in picking the groceries?

Well we do know Mangini had his hand in one pick. VG. It was well
publicized Mangini over-ruled several scouts and made this pick. It
appears MT learned his lesson as he doesn't allow the HC a pick until
later in the draft as evidence of Rex's John Conner pick which was a

also... there was strong indication that keller was mangini's pick. i

"highly rated". there was a lot written about the keller pick because
it was "unexpected". I think the Revis pick was a no brainer. They
needed a CB and he was the best rated guy on the boards. I dont know
much about the Harris pick.
Also good to consider. Look at the Cleveland drafts since Mangini got
there. Look at the Jets current draft. The Jete current draft is an
absolute disaster. I dont think any of them will work out in the long
run and NONE of them were able to help this year.

Two things about this:
First, we traded picks in this draft to obtain Braylon Edwards and
Santonio Holmes. I think if those had been our top picks, it would have
been worthwhile given the performances of Cotchery and Coles and Clowney
and Smith at WR. Both these guys have made key plays this year (Miami
and Detroit for just two) and we got Braylon for most of two years. If
they have any aspirations of a(nother) ring, we may sign one or both
this coming off season.
Second, the book is not written on any of the Jets 2010 picks. While you
are almost right none were able to help this year (obviously you have
failed to watch the Terminator on specials and he has played adequately
at a difficult job to learn (FB), the CB and OL positions take time to
learn. Revis was not the all pro/world he is now his first year. Many
OL, especially ones from small schools, take time to learn. Brick,
Slauson, and Moore on our OL were not great shakes their first years.
As long as Callahan stays here, I have faith that Vlad will play
somewhere along our OL as a stallwart.
It is possible that Kyle may develop by the end of this year or next.
After next season, I may be able to write him off as do you, but I think
you will be surprised to be wrong again.

Not that I'm defending my book... But Slauson's performance the past
few games has been very good. I credit the Slauson 6th round value
pick to Callahan. Obviously he tipped the Jets off on him.

I sure hope you are right... He did not show any improvment to me all
through the pre-season. His feet looked like they were doing a tire
drill for lack of a better understanding of what to do. HUGE upside
and looks very impressive when he uses his strenght and leverage...
but man... he looks confused.

I have not written Kyle off yet. He's got too much potential. Same
with Vlad. They have the tools. They need to learn how to play.
Gholston has the tools too, but... Lets see if Vlad and Kyle can
learn. I hope they are not "Gholstons"

As an aside: you often stated Mangini was incompetent as DC and HC. He
looked pretty damn competent last Sunday v. you guys. Browns are
playing good ball at the moment.

He didn't get there is my reccolection...he does not have good feet and is
very awkward in space and with his vision as to where people are, I
recognize he does some other stuff well, but that characteristic is not good
for a guard.

He hasn't been terrible and obviously as a player or teammate is what
Rex or someone wants. He is a 2nd year guy & cheap so there is a ton
of upside. He who shan't be named had limitations on pass blocking &
straight ahead run blocking but a guard that can move adds a few plays
to an offense.
