I realize that they are two different players but I also remember when
another 31 year old back for the Jets was told might be over the hill at 31.

LT really looked like a spent player last season. It has nothing to
do with him being "told" he is over the hill. His results are what
is telling. To my eyes, it looked like it was high time to stick a
fork in him. I would not mind it they paid him one million for one
year and that would be it, but... The deal that they made for him
given how he looked last season... Well... I think they blew 2.5
million out their ass and left with the same smile that the last guy
had at "Fair Deal Dan's" used car lot after he was sold on another
real cream puff. LT is not only a retread, he's a retread that is
losing air and leaving rubber chunks along the road.

Michael, remember I wanted to keep Jones.

He may be done but how many guys play on a high ankle sprain at all?
After you answer that tell me why they don't & then tell me if you may
want to reconsider what you saw.

Early in the year Jet fans were screaming about T Jones saying his low
ypc average & how they were inflated by some long runs so which over the
hill guy are we talking about? Jones or Washington?

Some things to consider:

They may have decided Greene is our guy
Jones sucks unless he runs the ball 20 times a game
Neither Jones or Greene can catch the ball and we could lose Washington
He can block --which Washington can't-- so we have a pass catching RB
that can block on play action.
He rarely fumbles.
He is good at short runs

This may not work out and we cut him in training camp. In which case he
is cheap insurance. He may revert to where he was in 2008 in which
case Tannenbaum & Ryan are brilliant.

John.... If his injury is what was holding him up, we could not have
done better for 2.5 mil. I dont think that is the case, though... And
yes... I agree that even if he cant run the ball the way we'd like to
see, he can still offer top quality smarts and years of experience as
both a rout runner and a pass blocker. I have been a big fan of the
Jets brass for decisions like Revis, Harris, Mangold, Keller and above
all, the Sanchez deal and MOST IMPORTANTLY, Rex... I'm not bashing
them in the least... I just pointing out that I saw LT as being washed
up as a ball carrier. And yes... They could think Green is the guy and
I would be all for it if not for the remaining questions about Green's
durability. Not to mention, the questions about Washington. For a
"ground and pound" team this direction to push Jones out and bring in
LT seems a bit dicey.

I have also been wondering... Who do you think is the lead guy(s) in:

1. Getting rid of Jones
2. Signing LT
3. Cromartie
4. Rhodes for a 4th

I think people overstate Jones as power runner. He was most effective
by using his speed when he was freed to teh outside. How many times do
you remember Jones getting jammed for 1 or no yards. LT is actually
bigger than Jones.

yeah... the best historical accounts that we have indicate that he
came from a settlement on the banks of the clyde. the clyde river
region was well north of hadrian's wall. that's caledonian (now
scottland). cant say for sure when exactly he lived, but during the
late 4th and early 5th century, the roman's work was still
perpetuating itself north of hadrian's wall up by the antonine wall.
that is were the Clyde region is. there were plenty of romanized
settlements there in (caledonia) scottland.

also... no question that he was a celt by blood. i've heard/read a
few false accounts that he was actually latin. easy to discredit with
the info we have on his parents.

Michael, why isn't Leon "the guy"? He's the only back on the roster

no reason for sure to say that leon is NOT the guy... Just dicey... it
was never proven that he can take the pounding of a first line back..
second off... can he regain his form ??? i'm betting he can, but it
is a big 'If" Not to mention all the recent talk that it is "50/50"
if he will be a jet next season... so... no sure thing there with leon
for several good reasons.

Wait... so Leon hasn't proven that he can take a pounding, but Greene
has? If anything, I'd think the opposite is true. Admit it. You're
still hung up about his size. :)

What's funny to me is that a few short years ago everybody was saying
you can't do RB by committee. Running backs have to get 20+ carries to
be effective, or something like that. Now EVERYBODY'S going the
by-committee route. Even teams with top tier running backs, like the
Vikings, are trying to put together a committee. The tides turn in this
league so fast.

Just like St.Paul was a Roman and also a Jew.

In "his" few writings he references a place that only is mentioned by

I saw where you said that. But you also said that you think Greene is
"the guy" -- no mention of Leon -- and I can't really figure out why
except for the part where you said that Leon hasn't proven that he can
take a pounding. That's why I was wondering -- and Greene has?

I just can't figure out where all this Greene-love is coming from. He's
an intriguing prospect, no doubt, but it's hard for me to imagine that
he's the frontrunner for the job at this point. Maybe a full camp and
preseason of wowing the coaches gets him there, but that's far from a given.

yes... no question at all that he was romanized. that is an
absolute. because he was romanized, some accounts have taken on a
life of their own and had him as a latin transplant and not a celt.
that is bs. he was the latin speaking son of celtic but romanized
parents who also spoke latin and were roman citizens.

we only have two bits of writing from patric himself. the
"declaration" and the letter to the soldiers of croticius. in the
"declaration" patric actually lists his home town as banna venta
berniae. that came directlu from old pat himself. most historians
and geograpers think that condier that banna venta berniae was the
area the romans called glannaventa. that's just north of current day
cumbria in the scottish lowlands. given that there are also some tid
bits that mention the clyde with patric, a fair guess is that he lived
some place close to where the clyde reaches furthest south. the clyde
does not reach down as far as carlisle, so perhaps he was close to
another river that the clyde was connected to. being some place in
the southwestern part of scottland along the navigable clyde also
makes sense in the fact that he was snatech up by raiders from
ireland. as far as the geography goes that is the most likely region
were raiders from across the irish sea would land. nort east of
carlisle like may be portpatric :-)

we only have two bits of writing that came directly from the st.
himself...

lolz... the celts did have such a cook book. ritual canibalism is
historical fact as far as the celts go in pre-romanized brittian.
when the celts needed a special favor from their gods, they'd take to
ritual canibalism. when the romans looked to take over the place, the
celtic druids retreated to anglesey island for a little munchie time
in hopes that their god's would repel the romans back across the

I'm not so sure that the Jones decision had much to do with Greene.

Obviously they don't think they're downgrading with LT. Otherwise, they

sounds about right :-) though, the forensic archeological evidence
that we have indicates that it was the druidic Celtic peoples of
Britain and not specifically the Irish that ritually killed and ate
each other for religious purposes. though, it cant be ruled out that
similar things went on at the same time across the Irish sea. there
were Celtic peoples on both sides of the English channel and both
sides of the Irish sea, but separation by the water caused a lot of
cultural distinctions, especially between Ireland and the rest of the
Celtic world. I could still see Rex trying to eat a player or coach
if cheeseburgers were not readily available.

agree 100 % papa. lots of people incorrectly believe that most of our
"problems" including the wars we had/have are a result of economic
interests. total bs. resources of all kinds including land and
political power do not prove to be problematic to share/distribute
among kindred peoples. look at the reasons why groups/individuals/
countries try to pry resources away from "the other ones". perceived
divisions cause wars and "problems" not stacks of money.

Yup...very correct. As long as all the folks who have it are the "same" and
part of the "same tribe" there is a sense that it can be shared somehow.
This has its roots in the gift economy too. I've been re-reading The Gift
recently by Marcel Maus. It's really interesting to see how much
differently we see things when we come back to something we read over 25
years ago. There is a line in a Kris Kristofferson song about the reaction
fellow singer Steve Earle got when he did a song about "The American
Taliban." Earle took a rather sympathetic point of view because he
recognized how screwed up this young man was and what had driven him to this
end. In Kristofferson's song he notes that "we're all sons of
Abraham"....my guess is the overwhelming majority of Americans have NO idea
that Islam came from the same tradition as Judaism and Christianity. I
recently told an "aquaintence" one of the profits of Islam was Abraham and
another was Jesus...he went ballistic on me and told me those "heathens"
have nothing to do with "our people." Tribes....that what we are seeing
now, today in America. We are becoming very tribal. But....our tribe, The
NY Jets, are the best tribe. Did you ever read any of the anthropology of
sport...that addresses that concept. Sports teams are totems and tribal
symbols. I'd love to get together some time and talk about all this stuff.

No, not correct at all. It is simplistic to say one factor causes
problems. It is more simplistic to dismiss economic & political greed &
replace it "us & them."

Look at most wars fought & the biggest reason is about power usually
economic but sometimes political. Revolutions occur when the middle
class, in the classical sense, can't exert their political muscle that
goes with their economic might.

If you think of yourself as a follower of history, a must read.

People revert to what you call "tribal" when there is no stability. The
Soviet Union did a great job of bringing stability but unless you were
at the top it wasn't much fun but some amazing science, arts, etc. came
out of country that killed millions of its own. If you keep most people

work at both ends of the social or political spectrum and they don't. The
words of Will Rogers are very significant now....the reason Democrats rarely
agree is that usually you have a mix of diverse opinions and a lot of fairly
open minded people. I'm talking party wide, not the clowns who get elected
and often masquerade. The progressive side does not have the level of
certitude about everything that the right has. As far as substance
goes....not being able to turn down a child for pre-existing conditions is a
lot of substance. My jobs have put me in contact with families who have
lived through this and I've seen people destroyed by it. I don't expect you
to agree with anything I say. You are entitled to your own opinions, but
there are some basic facts and only one set of them. I wish you were right
about most people with a pulse....they flat out don't have a clue. Look
what happened post 9/11....Seihks with turbans on were attacked at their
places of business.....my next door neighbor is a fairly educated person and
he has NO clue about any of this and believes whatever far right garbage
some buddy of his says...and he especially believes it if Bill O' Reilly
says it. The one I love is the Nazi / Communist combination they have
created. Not much of an understanding of history going on for these
"average Joe's" or Joe Six Pack or whatever they are.

Papa, when I was single I met few women that read more into my comments
than you do into mine. My comment about getting "out more" was a joke.
You lead with your chin at times expecting the worst and miss the
subtlety of my humor -- OK I at least think I am clever.

I didn't go to Eton or Rugby but I knew by freshman year of HS about
Islam. Perhaps I figured if kids in the South Bronx were learning about
the basics of Islam it was going on in other places. I still think it
is difficult not to have picked it up, even by osmosis, since the
Iranian Revolution & subsequently 9/11. My personal opinion about
Islam is that it is radically different than mainstream Judaism and
Christianity and not in a good way. It doesn't make Muslims bad
people--I have actually prayed with Mulsims-- but I think for quite a
few reasons it allows bad people & bad ideas to thrive.

As for the attacks on Muslims in this country please stop it. No one
with a brain or a conscience in America would justify an attack on an
innocent. The attacks were very few and I feel terrible that any
happened but in a country of nearly 300MM and with all the guns floating
around I was pleased at how rare they were after 9/11. We didn't round
up Americans & put them in camps like we did in WW2 so maybe we have
improved.

As for the Democrats being different, well, that is your opinion. I
don't share it and obviously think they are worse based on my choices. I
am conservative first, GOPer second, but Ihave voted for a GOP for
president since Bush sr.

As for your experience with transplants & insurance companies, I am not
sure what that has to do with anything I wrote. I think there are huge
issues in health care delivery in the US, and I have written before, to
me that isn't near the top of the list but I have never needed one so my
views aren't shaped by that experience.

Goldwater was a conservative. Most of those today claiming to be
conservatives are a far cry from that position. By percentage points, Regan
increased the defecit by a far greater margin than any President in history.
He was only outdone by Bush II who increased the total amount but still not
by the huge percentage rise achived by Regan. It seems to me the "modern
conservatives" are anything but...it's all rhetoric. The current group have
gone way beyong being conservative and are merely reactionary
obstructionists. When I spoke of progressives I stated that by the time
they get themselves elected they have probably already co-opted to a system
that just may be the problem.

The thing is though, you scurvy neo-con fascist corporatists are only
used to the shadows and recesses of your home sewers and wouldn't dare
come out into the sun for fear that the exposure would show even you
myopic ejits how really horrible you look, smell and are.

How's that for using proper subtlety and innuendo in email?

No fascist or marxist here. the far ends of the spectrum are for nut
cases. i was a libertarian before the word was in the news. or more
to the point, i'm a rebublican. not in the way "rebublican" is
defined by the gop, but "republican" in the way "republic" was defined
prior to the reconstruction. i'm for returning to the sanity of a
republic. less government, more freedom, and above all, and end to
the globalist kleptocracy. democrat vs. gop is just a distraction.

John... I did not say that the only one factor involved in "problems"
was cultural divisions. I'm pointing out that strife due to cultural
division is all too often mistaken for simple economic gain as the
impetus to strife. Cultural division would of course include the
conflict that is always the inevitable accompaniment of religious
dogma.

Why would two people share a dollar they both just saw on the street
vs. another two who will fight over it ??? They guys that fight just
want all the money ???

I want to meet the first two.

The world is complicated and everything isn't about money but when they
said it was the root of all evil, well, sometimes old sayings hit the
nail on the head.

john... agree... plenty of directions to point at. my particular
feeling is that the people or group that has good breeding, education,
refinement and sensitivities will see value in cooperation that goes
well beyond grasping at that dollar all for themselves. Simple greed
as an unfortunate extension of the survival instinct is an autonomous
component, but I think that ignorance is really the root of all evil
and not money.

"good breeding" ? Did you really mean that literally? I used to raise
Labrador Retrievers, and for them I practiced good breeding to eliminate hip
disorders and create good temperment. Do you think breeding populations of
people are a big issue? Or, did you mean the way children are raised?

In the mid ' 70's we lived in Hartsdale, NY. At that time a lot of the
"Moonies" from the property he owned next to the Rockefeller Estate used to
come by and try and sell their flowers and crap....they were a very annoying
group. I had to drive past them quite a few times going to and from work, I
think they learned to avoid me.

I have a place all picked out..it's off McDougal Street.....you will receive
a special package, plain vanilla envelope with no return address. Follow
the instructions. Oh, there will be music involved....hope you liked the
