Lolz... I 100 % appreciate the sentiment that there are people that
game the system, do nothing and wait for the money to come falling
right out of the sky. It is also true that the democratic party
appeals to the people looking for such hand outs just so they can get
the votes. The republican party sells their bull shit by trying to
convince people that all the democrats want to do is tax working
people and give their hard earned money to low lifes that don’t want
to get out of bed to go to work. In both cases, it is bull shit. It
is all just as ignorant as Williams’ Hitler comment. Big money,
special interest, powerful foreign policy lobby, petrochemical
industry, big pharma, etc... They tell Obama what to do just as sure
as they would tell the most right wing republican prez what to go
do... And, they would listen... You should have a problem with Obama,
but not because he is a liberal. For the most part, his policy has
been right down the middle even though I think he is a socialist at
heart. The problem with Obama is that he has been nothing but an
obedient lap dog. He caves quicker than the Jets offensive line.
Williams’ remark was just as ignorant as Michelle Bachman saying that
the north east suffered hurricane damage because we don’t do right by
god. We live on the same planet with people who think that shit.

All I care about is not having to listen to that crappy song again.

In the words of Sgt Hulka, lighten up Francis. :)

He didn't call Obama Hitler. He painted a picture to say he didn't
want the GOP meeting with the political enemy. He referenced Hitler
but didn't call Obama that.

Papa, sadly the word Hitler, Nazi, Fascist, gets tossed around by both
sides. TV & the internet has made it worse. I was glad to see that
Congress has begun to act with more decorum with both sides using
procedure to remove hateful (idiotic?) words from the record. A
recent NY Times article which I can't find wrote about it saying the
shooting of AZ rep woke everyone up. Surprisingly a Rep from PA (D)
gave Boehner credit. Maybe there is hope.

BTW, he sounds like a hick but think about who listens to him.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
I can't agree........if you think Williams' remarks were appropriate there
may be no hope...apparently you do not know what an analogy is...he compared
playing golf with Obama as Netanyahu playing golf with Hitler...he said
Obama and the other Dems are "the enemy"....we are only talking about HIS
remarks...they are unacceptable and so are people who try and soft soap or
justify them.

You really have to stop putting words in my mouth.

It was a poor choice by Williams but one that many on the left in the
entertainment business & even some pundits who should know better,
have used in reference to the GOP & conservatives. I assume you would
support repercussions against those people as well.

I find flippant references to Hitler when people are talking about
someone they disagree with politically but that analogy was talking
about enemies and the distance not calling Obama Hitler. I can't
control what you hear & that is why he shouldn't have used it but I
have listened to that video & he didn't call Obama Hitler. Not that I
think he wanted to paint that picture but you could easily say that he
was referring to Boehner as Hitler.

It wasn't like calling you, Johnny & burf lefties or Commies because
that is an attempt at humor & I like you guys.
________________________________________________________________________________

The Fox folks were baffled and surprised..."THEY are the enemy"....he named
them...the reference was very clear....and I would not think anyone using a
similar analogy with a Republican would be appropriate. I do not find being
called a lefty communist amusing. It is an insult and an attack. And it is
something conservatives use all the time...and think it is amusing and just
in fun. But when anything goes back the other way they are very upset. I
do not think calling the President "the enemy" does any thing but hurt, and
there are a lot of idiots who follow people who say crap like that.

That started with our ancestors who thought human sacrifices made it rain
and slaying goats kept the volcano from erupting. The religious social virus
infection that started eons ago as a result of superstition created by
ignorant association of disconnected events is still active today.

==========================================================================

he compared Obama to Hitler and only the most kochsucking teabagger thinks
otherwise.

Aww... Jeez.... I'm not throwing a protracted fit over Williams Hitler
remark... My initial response to the original poster was a comic
remark about Obama and Hitler being polar opposites, politically. I
also think it is a bit odd that you question my maturity/age as a
reaction to my commentary above. I don’t think it is sound for any
person, group or societies’ reasoning to be underpinned by any
religious dogma that has its basis; anti-science, prescribed exclusion
of "the other", misogyny, myth, anachronistic inclinations from a by
gone age that no longer have any bearing on contemporary life, self
obsession, self importance, a duty to convert the *others* by reason
or by the sword, promoting the belief that the *others* are natural
protagonists in opposition to your ordained blood group/tribe/
association, and above all, giving "holey men" the power to decided
the mind of god.

I guess I'm a damn child.

when you start showing a man or a woman that they have based their
entire life on a false doctrine that was sold to them when they were
impressionable, it makes them dangerous. reactions are always
unreasonable. they can include name calling, aggression, threats of
violence and violent acts. fundamentalists are the enemies of
reason.

They're very different, but I wouldn't say opposites. Both are/were
right-wingers. I don't see anything about Obama's policies that
strike me as socialist-leaning, even the ones he doesn't implement.

Probably his intent but your opinion. I won't hold my breath waiting
for the outrage. The left has been calling the right fascists since
Reagan maybe a carryover from the the moron fringe during Vietnam.
The right does the same at least not on the floor of the House.

I think there is hypersensitivity to any historical reference from
WWII. Maybe it is justified.

I do it as a form of humor. I obviously don't think you, Johnny or B

friends who are on the left -- I actually have plenty, both friends &
lefties--know it is hyperbole not an attack. Sorry if the subtlety is

fact. Even so...I don't see him as the "enemy" and never said that. Even

I'm not a communist and I don't like being called one...that is a hugely

On a not-so-related-subject, but probably a more on-topic one, Obama's
(the "left winger") war has now crippled the New England Patriots
running game.

Ok, so I exaggerate.

(interestingly, the "this is a time of war" line sounds like something
right out of the Bush regime...)

---

The Patriots have an unexpected opening on their practice squad, as
Eric Kettani -- the former Navy fullback -- has been called back to
the USS Klakring. The news that he has been denied leave from the Navy
has created a mix of emotions for him.

"I love my country and I’m happy to serve it, but I’m also happy to be
a New England Patriot," Kettani said tonight.

Kettani is scheduled to fly out at 6 a.m. Friday, so he said goodbye
to coaches and teammates today.

"I think some of them were shocked. Coach Belichick said he'd help me
out in any way possible," Kettani relayed.

Kettani, who is appealing the decision, was surprised at the turn of
events, in part because former Lions linebacker and current
Indianapolis Colts practice squad player Caleb Campbell (Army) and
Eagles practice squad receiver Chad Hall (Air Force) have had the
opportunity to continue their playing careers.

Kettani was told he was being called back because this is a time of
war.

As for how this affects the Patriots, they have BenJarvus Green-Ellis,
Danny Woodhead, Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen as running backs on the
active roster. Kettani added depth, and this could lead the team to
target another running back/fullback-type for the practice squad.

mark... i cant imagine you see obama as wanting to have "national
socialism" in the fact that all degrees of society are put under
strict government control including religion, the military and race.
when you say obama is "right wing", that is only in the context of
*american* politics.

obama and hitler have one thing that i see in common and even though
that may be a cogent statement, the degree of the similarity is pale.
hitler wanted total government control over economic policy for "the
good of the nation". obama's policies have been to add more
government control and ownership over some economic components.

also good to keep in mind... taking steps to gain more control and
ownership over economic bodies/activities could be part of a far left
or far right regime.

however, we have two totally different political cats in hitler and
obama

if you are not comfortable with the word *opposite*, please keep in
mind, i'm not writing for the new york times or a doctoral thesis in
here

Michael, I don't think so. I think "total government control" more or
less fits the description of Obama's economic policies. That's a
pretty coarse definition, and obviously there are some key differences
between US policies and those of other historical "right wing"
economic approaches, but in a nutshell I think that description fits.
I can't think of a whole lot of industries where the government, or
its subsidiaries, don't share almost complete control except for those
where they choose not to (e.g. where the barrier to entry is already
high). It takes on names like "trickle down" if you're a republican,

I believe they do control it. It's a bit different because it's less
overt. But that's the point of democracy anyway.

By "control", I'm referring to central planning, which is implemented
through regulation, IP law, limited liability, monetary policy,
central banking, and (obviously) taxation/redistribution. Support
programs (e.g. the schooling industry) are designed to supplement
these goals. The biggest difference between US policy and the ones
you refer to are profit/loss, although many industries in the US are
made immune to this as well.

I have always thought that was interesting. The Civil War is an
unavoidable part of the country’s history. A lot of people know some
basic history on the subject including the major players and the major
battles. Still, even some history buffs have avoided Jeff Davis. No
one knows who the guy was. Very strange... He’s a ghost. I’ve
always been able to be objective when discussing people in history,
even if they were members of an unpopular opposition. None the less,
even though they had some fair grievances regarding taxation I have a
built in disgust for anything that has to do with the South in the
Civil War. When a Robert E. Lee fan tells me that he was the best
general in American history, my reply is that it was easy for Lee to
look good fighting against morons. I want to vomit when I come across
anything relating to Jackson or Forest.

Mark... I don’t see it that way. I could write volumes to explain
why. Let me try to sum it up without having to use 300 pages. When
Obama's policy is to the benefit of big business/special interest/wall
street, he gets his way. When his policy is not in line with what the
money guys want, he's pressured, rebffed and he folds. For example...
When you consider the bail-outs and all the trimmings that went along
with it... That was the biggest Keynesian exercise we have had since
FDR. Good for the money guys, so Obama had no problems getting it
done. What has Obama done to control the Federal Reserve,
petrochemical companies/markets, big pharma ??? Now consider this...
What would Duce' have been able to do with the Fed, petrochemical
companies, big pharma, etc... Hot knife, warm butter. Obama is not a
right wing dictator... He can only tie his shoes when the money guys
let him. He’s a frustrated social leftist on a set of strings.

Something interesting to consider going forward with any discussions
regarding who or what is Marxist/leftist and who or what is fascist/
right wing. I often find that these discussions wind up being an
argument over what words mean. Before we discuss one vs. the other,
it is helpful to know what words mean. For example… Nazism, Fascism,
Hitler and Duce’ are summarily defended as being far right. Keynesian
economics are summarily defined/labeled as left wing economic
philosophy. We have already established in an earlier thread that
Duce’s economy was anything but and Adam Smith laissez faire ideal.
So… Here we have a fascist government undertaking some tremendous
Keynesian exercises… So… What was that ??? Left win or right wing ;-)
Or as Hitler described it, national socialism…Some from the Left and
some from the Right. All of it extreme.

It's a mutually beneficial relationship. The money guys don't have
the power. They have the money. The government has the power.
Corporations can't tax. Corporations can't implement obstacles to
prevent competitors from entering the market. Corporations can't even
incorporate without the government creating a construct for which they
can. The corporations rely wholly on the government's decision to
shape the economic environment.

Do the corporations have a say in how it's done? I'm sure their
influence is substantial. That's what lobbyists are for. But there
are five zillion regular people in this country who are not beholden
to corporate interests who believe in the very same things Obama/Bush
believe in, economically. One prominent one happens to be a popular
nobel laureate who I'm pretty sure operates independently from big
pharma and whoever else. :)

It is? I assumed voluntary marxism (e.g. syndicalism?) and austrian
economics were considered left, whereas state capitalism/state
socialism/fascism were considered right.

You might be right, it's in the definitions where we differ. When I
see the words "fascist" and "keynesian", I don't think dramatically
different things. You appear to be placing them at opposite extremes.

Again… In fascism, it is the government with direct control over the
economy to ensure that the mutual benefit is between the economy and
the people. The carrot is there for corporate taking, but so is the
stick if profiteering counter to the social good starts taking place.
You have only to look to our Federal Reserve system, Wall Street,
petrochemical industry, etc to conclude we don’t have anything
approaching fascism.

>The money guys don't have
> the power.  They have the money.

The money gives them media acess, acess to buy candidates, elections
and hence... Puts the power in their court. It also gives them power
to determine how taxation is gong to work. It is a half assed
oligarchy.

I am not placing fascism in opposition to Keynesian economics. I am
stating that the foundation of discussions relating to left vs. right
with respect to economics are faulty at the base because the
definitions are not concrete... Going from what I wrote above... Many
will summarily define Keynesian economics as a left wing construct and
left wing application. None the less, in true fascism (ultra right
wing by classic definition), we saw the most extreme form of
government intervention and control over the economy. Imagine calling
Hitler and Duce' leftists ???

What I insist on, is that fascism is not a mutually benificial
feathred bed between government and corporation. It is government
forcing and controlling corporation and econmic affairs for the social
good. That is fascism. What we have is a budding oligarchy... Neo
Feudalism. It is not left wing or right wing.

Michael, my disagreement isn't with where fascism belongs (left or
right), it has to do with where keynesianism belongs. Both systems
require explicit control of the economy by a ruling class (again, we
can differ on how "ruling class" is defined, but I think it's
inconsequential for this part...). "Control" comes in a number of
flavors. You can exert control on the profit/loss end or you can
exert control by setting up the conditions in a manner that will
result in an outcome desired by the state. The US economy contains
elements of both, although probably moreso the latter than the
former. Traditional "fascism", as you're referencing it, is probably
best described by the former. Both are forms of a centrally-planned
economy, as opposed to an economy based on free association, mutual
aid, etc. I believe those to be characterized as "left",
historically.

I find ESPN's firing of him hyprocritical, cowardly and disgusting. He
was merely exercising his free speech. Who of us - internally or
otherwise - haven't at one time or another compared a US president to
Hitler? He was speaking colloquially for crying out loud.

The venom which spewed towards W - Hitler was like a common phrase.
But nobody got fired for that.

Not that I like nor respect Obama, W or the office of the presidency.
One thing tho about Obama's election: the historians will decide but I
think the election of a guy who looks like non-northwestern Europeans
may - may - have provided some sort of spark in other parts of the
world ... to say we want to own our government and future v. autocracy/
dictatorship.

The Obama Administration may be most important in that perhaps it's
advanced the cause of global liberty and democracy.

So he is similar to Hitler. Maybe Willliams should have called you &
embraced that.

What many Democrats (notice I didn't write left) who don't get some of
the Obama bashing from the right is is/was generated for the pain he
inflicts on small business. He has embraced big business & caused
problems for small business. This recession won't end with GE. I

Yeah, I agree with him too for a change. :)

Back to the semantics game though ... some people (referring to the
french assembly in the 1800s) consider support of the status quo to be
"right wing" and radicalism to be "left wing". This isn't an economic
characterization, but is probably not unrelated either. So, under
this alternate definition, wouldn't that also make Obama "right
wing"? As John said, the extent to which he's supported big business
is pretty damned consistent with what everyone else has done the
past...who knows how many years.

Mark, Look out your window...there are agents from Fox news hiding in the
bushes. They heard you called Obama a right winger...that is treason to
them.

Mark, yes & no, regarding his support for big business.

He comes in with this half assed Health Care Reform & then immediately
excludes his buddies whether it is big business & unions form the
burdens he placed on with the reform. Don't get me going about how he
took many of the most expensive health care costs from big business &
dropped it in the taxpayers lap. That whole process was just a big $
shakedown by K St. I could fix it, the country would be healthier,
but I would need to a despot.

So on one hand he plays to the left with health care reform, his
attack on Wall St after he bails them out (the latest lawsuit on banks
is just plain stupidity) the mortgage stuff makes me crazy, & then he
cozies up to big business. He does have some lefties in his state
department that have some different ideas. Maybe they are right &
fomenting revolt in Arab countries is a good thing. I think like I
read Cuomo say a long time ago he has one foot on the boat & one on
the dock.

He like Clinton had an opportunity to do some smart fiscal moves that
would be good for the country long term because for years the left
wouldn't let the right do anything smart & then under Bush & even
worse under Obama, the Founding Fathers biggest fear happened. We
raided the treasury. He is far worse than Bush and I don't see the
cavalry coming with any of these idiots.
