Should Jets Nation Be Optimistic?

Obviously hope spring eternals for almost all 32 outfits this time of
year building to the crescendo of opening day when reality begins
setting in ...
... but reading Sparano's presser from the other week with his
optimism, competitiveness, "non-nonsense" as he described himself when
a mediot mentioned his rep/players saying he's no-nonsense ...
... 'Tone at the moment seems to be buying in, hopefully Coples & Hill
are the real deal and juice up the most critical areas in today's game
- passing offense/defense the latter effected best by a pass rush ...
... back to ground and pound, protecting the football much better can
you hear me Sanchez ... back to consistent, stout, opportunistic
defense a la '09 & '10 ...
Should Jets Nation including me the eternal Jets partisan and
aggressive optimist be optimistic as of 11:45am 5/14/12?
Or should I temper it with: based on past performance we don't have an
elite passing QB; our RT position is as stable as North Korean foreign
policy; outside of Tone our WRs are young and unproven; our pass rush
remains inconsistent and average at best; diito our safety position;
we only have one bona fide TE, what else?
I guess I answered my optimism with my temperant questions. Damn! And
I was exicted for a second. I dunno. I think it comes down to two
things, above all. Our RT position/o-line and pass rush. If we can get
good production from those units we could make some noise this season.

defense, wants to ground and pound and now he's got a good fit for an
OC. They picked up Landry to fix the safety problem, the drafted
coples to help the front seven and pass rush and the drafted hill, who
is perfect for what the jets want to do. hill may turn out to be the
best WR in the draft.
no... this is all "potential"
1. Landy can re-injure his achillies
2. Coples can flop
3. Hill can flop.
Now on to a real question. The guy that can make it work or torpedo
the season.
Sanchez...
Does he respond and grow up, or go in the tank ???
Tebow is great to have if they use him in the planned utility roles
and he does not become a speed bump in the general continuity of the
offense... Tebow is not the answer to rescue the Jets as the starting
QB if Sanchez craps out. Tebow is just too badly flawed in too many
ways as a QB. You cant beat the top post season teams with Tebow no
matter how much fun you have watching him play miracle man vs. the
lower seeded teams in the post season.

improved their O line, forget the playoffs; they can't make it on

lying eyes. I have said this before. I cannot see how zero upgrades to
our OL can improve matters. The FO has manifested a completely different
assessment: first in free agency and then in the draft. If they are
right, than the OL could be fine. I just cannot let go of what I saw
with my own eyes though. I won't believe in this unit until they perform
admirably in both the run and pass for several games.
The pass rush has been absent since the days of John Abraham or even the
Sack Exchange. Occasionally we'd get a sack or three. But it has been
too inconsistent to be taken seriously. Maybin, Copels, Davis
supplemented by growth from Wilkerson and Kendrick offer some hope. The
presence of Eric Smith leaving open huge escape holes and the return of
BT and Pace suggest instead more of the same old same old.
Performance answers all questions.
For all our sakes, I hope your optimism is well deserved. Because, I
agree with you. With a pass rush and a good OL, this team could be
dangerous.

important than Sanchez or Shott or whatever. If the OL opens big holes
in the running game against good teams, if our QB is able to see the
field without fearing for his life, Life will be good.
If not, it will s_ck to be a Jets fan. Even the pass rush and weak
safety will be less important than the OL's return to a solid performing
unit.

what he is talking about, they need to drill the crap out of some guys in
camp, and get them to stay and work hard on some basic little things...and
they need to work together as a unit on this stuff. I still think things I
saw especially last year looked like really bad technique at times.....you
are right, you cant' invent speed, but you can make a decent guy move
quicker and more efficient through technique. Like, that first step coming
out needs to gain ground and not step backwards into a "hole"...you see that
a lot. Then I watch an O line like Denver and some others and I'm amazed at
how good the technique is all across the line. BTW...when the Fins were
doing all their wildcat crap...the technique used in that O line was good,
they line wasn't great, but they executed well...remember when it beat the
Jets?
