imagine that anyone could watch this game and think Brandon Moore is a
JAG. That was arguably a probowl quality performance. At least one
third of the running yards came through the holes that Moore blasted.
Looked like the Huskers of the 1980's.

Faneca also delivered some crushing blocks. On one run he opened a
hole so big 2 RB;s side by side could have gotten through.

Faneca gave up a pile of sacks this year. Moore gave up one.

Glenn, and like Mawae once did for us delivers blows at many different
points of the line.

Honestly Mike, it really isn't Faneca to blame for a sack. I don't
know what particular plays you are talking about but letting a LB
through is not really a Tackles fault. QB's need to recognize a blitz
and adjust the blocking scheme. It is very possible this is as much
Sanchez as anyone.

I cant agree here... Guards have to pass block too. Sanchez, if
nothing else, has been very good at moving around and avoiding
pressure. Pressure up the gut, if you guards and center cant handle a
bull rush is a shure way to get to even a mobile qb. I saw Faneca get
instantly blown appart at the line several times this year. Faneca
gets all the credit in the world and the problowls because he pulls
and is seen downfield a lot of the times where you would not expect to
see a guard, but he'd not too good at the power game and he is not a
good pass blocking guard. The Patriots defensive front had a ball
with him.

Glenn look where the TE's line up. Look where Richardson is on the
running plays, and on pass blocking where the TB usually ends up when he
picks up the blitz. Look where the extra guard/tackle eligibles line
up. Jones is right hand runner. After you look at all that look at how
many times Faneca pulls through Moore's hole. Then think back about how
bad the line was pre-Faneca.
Faneca isn't the greatest pass blocker & has different role than Moore.
Isn't the right side of the line generally the power side? Moore has
been a pleasant surprise but got blown up on pass blocking quite a bit
last year.

pushes the dt to the left, jones runs through the hole and faneca runs
down and over to the right, clearing out lb's and charging db's.
more is very good at the quick hole blast and faneca is good at
pulling. moore NEVER pulls and faneca is not a good pass blocker, nor
does he push defenders off the ball.
as for mangold... he is very good at pushing guys to the side, very
good at holding pass blocks, but... one thing i dont see him do as
good as he is... he is not the best power center pushing off the
ball. those huge holes in the center come from mangold pushing to the
left and moore pushing directly out

So you guys are right that they run him to the right way more frequently
than to the left. I think John's right, that this might be more of a
function of running strong side a lot more frequently than weak side, if
they use the TE/FB on the right side more often. And when they bring
Hunter in as the extra guy, I've always seen it on the right side.
YPC right vs left is pretty close, but there's still a significant bias
to the right. How much is it the guards instead of the tackles?
Another thing to consider is that Woody is waay better than DBrick in
that department.
FWIW, Greene's numbers are similar although less biased in YPC, so it
appears that it may not just be Jones' preference.

Note to teams playing the Jets... If you expect run, crash all your
backers in the gaps between mangold, moore and woody... Dont worry
about containing the edge by Brick. A nice trick is to use both dt's
to blow up either Faneca or Mangold while your backers crash the "a"

It would be a difficult stat to dredge up but it would be curious to see
where the long gains were more likely to occur, right or left. Leon W
benefited from some great blocks by Faneca & DBrick but mostly Faneca.
I am not sure if it just hit the Houston papers but BB was talking
about Vollmer and his ability to play LT & RT and that the ability to
play the finesse & the power side was a rarity. That was good scouting
by the Pats and proof that sometime in the draft a reach is not a reach.
Hard to believe how thin his experience is at gridiron.

They struck gold with him. It makes Matt Light expendable next year, as
they're currently using a three-man OT rotation. They could probably
haul in a 2nd or 3rd in trade.
Or maybe without a cap, BB will keep all three starting tackles on the
team and run them all at 2/3rd load to keep them fresh. It appears to
be working, because the line is run blocking better than I remember.
