With Jarvis Green out, the Pats front 3 today looks like Wright at NT
and Wilfork/Warren playing the two end spots. That's a bit against the
grain because Wilfork is usually at NT. Instead, they've got their two
biggest and strongest guys over the tackles. I think it highlights just
how important the DEs are in setting the edge and beating the off tackle
runs.

With that in mind, I think the Jets can live without Jenkins -- IF they
can get strong performance out of their defensive ends. This is why
they MUST draft one with their first pick this offseason. They probably
need two, especially if Ellis is a cap casualty.

True, but this regime has not show its ability to draft, develop, or
even trade for a quality 3-4 DE.

The only decent guy we have, Ellis, was a Parcells pick (who seems to
have a pretty good idea of what he needs here).

Anyone want a take a crack at Tanny's efforts at DE. Kimo Von Ollehoffen
for starters. Kenyon Coleman anyone?

Someone want to do some painful research and take it from here.

Well, I won't do Harlan's research for him but you might recall that,
during the run-up to the '09 draft, I was in agreement with you about
the need for a DE, so much so that I didn't want or like the Sanchez
trade-up because it automatically put the DE spot on the back burner.
Now, without Jenks, teams are able to plan for ways to take advantage of
our rather pedestrian DEs (although they did a credible job against the
'wild cat' last week, IMHO). And "...beating the off tackle runs..." is
the major weakness of the D.

You also wanted AJ Hawke over Ferguson.

Have you watched him play the last two years?

What can I tell ya? It's them damned OSU linebackers. ;) But all in
all, I'd still say it was at least a wash. I have to admit that
Ferguson has gotten better, although I still think that he is, at best,
an average LT.

Has that storm cleared your area?

Listen you may be on to something with OSU: Katzenmoyer, Carpenter,
Gholston, & Hawke. I wrote it once in here and could hear people ritting
their teeth. White LBers scare me as I worry about steroids. It is
totally visceral but when I saw Hawke head & orbital crest all I though
about was HGH & steroids. Maybe very unfair, not maybe it is, but it is
always in eth back of my head.

As for the storm it is on the other side of the Gulf where I just left.

:)

Thanks for asking.
