Assuming the two teams tie for the division, who does it go to?

Giants, if they beat the Redskins. If the Redskins beat both teams, the
Giants.
After that, I have no clue, it'd be a tie and go on to the next tiebreaker,
whether it's conference record/common opponent.

Depends who they lose/win to if they end up tied. If Giants beat Redskins,
they would win with the better division record (5-1). If they both end up
tied with the same division record, it then goes to head-to-head with common
opponents, then to conference record. By the time I figure it all out, I'm
sure someone else will have posted the answer.

i thought dallas won a tie-breaker which is why there's so much emphasis on
the Jints maintaining their one game lead.

If Dallas won last week ... then they'd win the first tiebreaker on
head to head ... The Redskins game is crucial for the Giants ...
winning that gives them the second tiebreaker ... even if tied with
Dallas ... Since Dallas has 2 divisional losses ...

If the Giants beat Washington and they end up tied the Giants would win
because of a better divisional record. If Dallas loses one more game and
the Giants win against the Redskins they win the division.

Giants are 7-2 with 3 games left to play versus common opponents.
Dallas is 6-4 with 2 games left versus common opponents.

The second tie-breaker is games within the division. The Giants are 4-1
with the Redskin game left. The Cowboys are 3-2, also with a game remaining
against Washington. So if the Giants beat the Redskins -OR- the Redskins
beat Dallas, they own the tie-breaker over Dallas.

We are tied in the Division only if we lose to Washington and Dallas beats
them. Assuming that scenario:

Team W-L Div Conf Left
---- --- --- ---- ----
GIANTS 9-5 4-2 8-4 KSC / oak
COWBOYS 9-5 4-2 7-3 car / STL
REDSKINS 8-7 3-2 8-3 phi

With this scenario, the Cowboys must win one of the other two games to tie
our conference record; if they win out with this scenario, even if we win
out as well, they win the tie-breaker with a better conference record (9-3
vs. 8-4). If they lose both (and we do as well), we win the tie-breaker
against the Cowboys alone although the Redskins can make it a three-way tie
with a win against the Eagles. That leaves this scenario:

Team W-L Div Conf
---- --- --- ----
GIANTS 9-7 4-2 8-4
COWBOYS 9-7 4-2 7-5
REDSKINS 9-7 4-2 9-3

In that case, the Redskins win the division by virtue of their better
conference record.

Assuming the Cowboys split their remaining two games and we do as well, the
Redskins cannot win the division (the best they will do is 9 wins) and the
standings look like this:

Team W-L Div Conf
---- --- --- ----
GIANTS 10-6 4-2 8-4
COWBOYS 10-6 4-2 8-4

Then the tie-breaker is common games of which the Giants and Cowboys have
the following:

SND OAK DEN KSC
GIANTS L W
COWBOYS W L L W

Since this tie only comes about if the Giants split, both teams wind up with
identical 2-2 records in common games.

The next tie-breaker is "Strength of victory." Here is that information:

GIANTS BEAT (wins/games left***):

ARZ (4/3) / NOR (3/4) / STL (5/3) / DEN (10/3) / WAS (8/1)
SFR (3/3) / PHI (5/3) / DAL (10/0) / PHI (5/3) --- 53 Wins

If they beat KSC --- 61 Wins
If they beat OAK --- 57 Wins

COWBOYS BEAT:

SND (8/3) / SFR (3/3) / PHI (5/3) / NYG (10/0) / ARZ (4-3)
PHI (5/3) / DET (4/4) / KSC (8/3) / WAS (8/1) --- 55 Wins

If they beat CAR --- 64 Wins
If they beat STL --- 60 Wins

*** adjusted for tie-breaker to come to fruition

Needless to say with so many games left and many of them with teams playing
each other, even though the Cowboys have a slight edge, this one depends on
way too many variables to successfully look into unless someone wants to pay
me. :)

Looks very complicated - you figured every scenario out. Good job!
To make it simple - let's just win the rest of the games!
