Is it official??? It was supposed to happen after yesterday's game,
but I've not heard anything on the news yet.
Is IS a defensive guy, isn't he??? Can't be any worse than Sheridan!

He was the DC for one of the Giants Rey Handley teams, only for one
year.
Also Jets head coach, 1 year. He did have a winning record tho 9-7.

I'm waiting for Fox, Carolinas loss to the Jets today brings JF one
more step closer to home.

Home to what? What are you hoping for or expecting? If it's not as HC, do
you think being a HC now he'll settle for anything less than that going
forward?

If he wants a job he will settle. Have you seen the quality of head
coaches not employed right now?
There is a lot to chose from Bill.

Even Bill Belichick had to go back to bein DC for Parcells, it didn't
hurt his career, did it?

Usually for a disgraced head coach with great OC/DC success they move

Bill Belijoke did that and it worked out well.

John Fox should come back to the Giants as DC for 2010, and then with
the understanding that if he can fix the defense he will be given the
HC job. Coughlin should be told that 2010 is his final year (what is
his contract up to?)

I have also heard rumors of Dick Jauron.
He was Coughlins original DC with Jacksonville.

That makes more sense than John Fox. Fox has no connection to Coughlin;
he was Fassel's DC.

Good point. How's Dick Jauron? Is he a Dick or a dick on defense?

Without looking up the stats I remember Coughlins early Jags were
solid on D, of course if Jauron didn't succeed at the DC level he
would have never got the shot as an HC. He has put up some bad numbers
as an HC tho. I dunno how much older he is than Fox, but he sure looks
a lot older. But Hell, Jim Johnson was basically a DC til he died, and
a damn good one.

That's because Jim Johnson is a rare gem, he is so in love with
defense that he wants to coach and only coach defense, and has no
aspirations to be a HC. A rare gem.

Look a at Spags. A brilliant and most effective DC. But so far, a
lousy HC. Not all great DC's make great HC's. If I were
the Giants, I'd offer him the moon to get him back as DC. We have a
lot of talent on the Defense and he always brought out
the best in them. They'd run through a wall for him.

And then you got guys like Fox ... who peak their first year ...
Or Parcells ... almost fired his first year ...
Or Belichick ... after his Cleveland debacle ... few thought he'd even
get another HC job ... much less be so successful as one ...
Spags inherited a crappy team ... I felt that his enthusiasm and a new
philosophy would get him a few more wins ... But it doesn't look that
way ... maybe he's molding a team ... and picked character and
potential over talent and will see benefits down the road ,,,

I wouldn't write him off as yet ...

Oh yeah, a new coach taking on a rebuilding job gets 3 years at least
IMO..... as long as they are improving each year and don't take a step
back. In the case of Handley he wasn't rebuilding, he turned Champs
into chumps (remind you of anyone on the Giants current staff?). If I
recall BOTH Fassel and Reeves won coach of the year in their first
seasons with the Giants due to quick turnarounds.

I held my comparisons to defensive guys ... Handley and Reeves were
offensive guys ... and Fassel (Coach of the CHAMPION UFL Las Vegas
Team) was a QB guru ...
The poster child of falling from grace though was another offensive
guy Allie Sherman ... who made a top flight team champions ... only to
then turn them into cellar dwellers in 3 years ...

Have you seen the roster he has? Do you really expect him to win 10
games with that roster? Can we be real and evaluate a HC honestly?

So what are you saying? We start hiring lousy coordinators now?
